“The bygone days were like a wisp of wind, dispersed by a gentle wind, or like a thin mist, vaporized by the rising sun. What traces have I left behind? Nothing! Not even gossamer traces. Just as I came into this world naked, will I soon go back to where I belong naked? It is not fair though: why do I have to make such a trip for nothing!”

Such is the sense of desolation and loss expressed by early twentieth-century scholar, essayist and poet Zhu Ziqing in his poignant essay “Haste.” The very same sentiment was felt at the end of the last century by a young Chinese student studying in the US. The student, however, was fortunate to find the answer to the questions so starkly expressed by the essayist.

Born and reared in Shanghai, China, Liu Jun travelled to America in 1987 to further her education. She worked for Volvo after graduating. Despite having both money and a good career, one day, a mist of confusion arose in her heart: “I was always thinking that in all the years of one's life, birth, old age, illness and death were unavoidable even though one had tons of money. That is why I was still enveloped by a sense of emptiness, even in America. To find out the answers, I tried attending a church and a temple, but neither worked for me.”

Fortunately, things took a turn for the better in 1996, when Ms. Liu's mother sent her a copy of Zhuan Falun from China. She could hardly pull herself away from this book once she opened it. She read the book continuously from the afternoon until 2 o'clock the next morning, and finally finished it. Ms. Liu recalled, “After I finished it, I felt that I had suddenly found hope, a totally different answer, because Zhuan Falun tells me what a human lives for. When I read in Zhuan Falun that the goal of a human is 'to return to the origin and go back to the truth,' I felt especially excited.” In this way, Liu Jun began practising Falun Gong.

For what does a person live? How does one avoid making the journey through life for nothing? The meaning of life eludes many people, like a mist; however, they will be amazed once they find that everything becomes clear when they encounter the true light of Falun Dafa. Below are the stories of a number of people who found what they were looking for through the practice of Falun Dafa.

Chen Gang has been working in an overseas-invested company in Beijing since 1994. One day in 1995, he saw the book Falun Gong by chance. After a thorough reading, he was amazed that all his previous questions about Qigong and Buddhism were answered in the book, and he was clear on the meaning of life.

A Chinese woman once asked a Bodhisattva when she was twenty-five, “For what does a person live? Please guide me to the right path.” Several days later, her boyfriend introduced Falun Gong to her. After she finished Zhuan Falun for the first time, she began practising Falun Gong.

Huang Liangjian, in his 40s, loves to explore the mysteries of life in his spare time. One day, he was attracted by a program on New Tang Dynasty Television (NTDTV) – “Extremely Huge Cosmos.” He clicked on the link for falundafa.org as he downloaded this program, learned more about the practice and began practising Falun Gong after he finished reading Zhuan Falun.

Mr. Zhong Zheng is a rural fortune teller. In late 1997, a relative gave him a copy of Zhuan Falun. After finishing this book, his severe stomach disease, periarthritis humeroscapularis, and arthralgia were cured, to his surprise, and more importantly, from this book he found the answer to many of life's mysteries. Excitedly, he wrote, “Lost in human society, I regarded vying and competing with others as the meaning of life; after I began practising Falun Gong, I became healthy and now know the real meaning of life.”

The experience of Wei Qiang is a dramatic one. A businessman, he was cheated through a conspiracy of people including law enforcement officers. He lost nearly 50,000 yuan and was imprisoned for 15 days. After being informed that he would receive no compensation for his losses, even if he was proved to have been wronged, Wei was determined to buy a gun for revenge. However, right at that time, he came across Zhuan Falun. After thoroughly reading the book, Mr. Wei understood what a man lives for, and he understood that people's notions are based on selfishness. He also understood that good and evil will always receive their due. Therefore, his intense notions of revenge melted away.

Life's tribulations are different for different people. For Canadian Ms. Zhang Junyi, her happy marriage of 36 years turned into nothing overnight when her husband passed away suddenly. For Zhen Yi, an office worker in Taiwan, it was a traffic accident ten years ago which caused her to be in a coma for eight hours. For Gu Jinnan, president of the Superior Court of Taichung, Taiwan, it was the great pressure caused by her busy workload and short temper. However, after finishing Zhuan Falun, they all had a totally new outlook on life and career.

Liu Zhengyi, a professor at Taiwan's Zhongxing University, was influenced by the lies of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). After the entire Chinese media apparatus slandered Falun Gong when 10,000 practitioners gathered outside the State Council Appeals Office in Beijing on April 25, 1999, he became curious and began reading Falun Gong books. Mr. Liu recounted, “After finishing Zhuan Falun, I was surprised – the CCP lost its mind! The contents of the entire book tell people how to cultivate and improve their mind and how to be good people. Why is the CCP against them?” Then, he bought a complete set of Falun Gong books and read them almost every night.

Mr. Qiu Jiaxin, who works at the Taiwan Nuclear Research Institution, was initially worried when he learned that his wife planned to practice Falun Gong. Therefore, he downloaded Dafa books, including Zhuan Falun and Hong Yin. After finishing them, the mist of confusion in his heart was driven away. Then, he, his wife and three daughters began practising Falun Gong.

Huang Shangyi was born and grew up in Zhanghua, Taiwan, and later went to Germany for further education. He was once deceived by the CCP's lies about Falun Gong, and thus avoided Falun Gong. Later in Germany, he began to understand Falun Gong from reading the Epoch Times newspaper. Mr. Zhang Tianyu, an engineer in the San Francisco government, went to a local book store and bought a copy of Zhuan Falun after the CCP spread lies about Falun Gong on a local Chinese TV station. He was determined to practice after he finished reading the book.

Mr. Kuang from Canada also broke through the mist of the CCP's lies. He had a habit of looking for faults in other religions in order to promote Buddhism. Later, he began reading Zhuan Falun in order to find faults with Falun Gong. Unexpectedly, he could hardly pull himself away from this book. After finishing Lecture One, he was regretful. He said, “Master Li, you are right and I am wrong.” In the latter chapters, he was so excited that he thought aloud, “I want to learn Falun Gong. I should contact Falun Gong practitioners.” In a short time, Mr. Kuang became a new practitioner.

We are so happy for those who have come to know Falun Dafa, and sincerely hope that more people can learn the truth and so begin their cultivation journey.
