Mr. Zhuang Haisen, a Falun Gong practitioner and a retired employee of the Diaobingshan City Iron and Coal Company in Liaoning Province, was arrested on February 22nd, 2012, after he gave a Shen Yun Performing Arts1 DVD to an officer from the Nanling Police Station. Mr. Zhuang, who is 60 years old, was sentenced to two years of forced labour. He was held for two weeks in a local detention centre before being sent to the Weining Forced Labour Camp in Benxi City.

Before he was sent to the forced labour camp, Mr. Zhuang showed symptoms of serious illnesses: heart problems, dizziness and disorientation. Nonetheless, officers from the Diaobingshan City Domestic Security Division ignored his physical condition and sent him to the forced labour camp, without informing his family.

Mr. Zhuang had suffered from many illnesses before he started practising Falun Gong. He was in so much pain that he had even arranged for his funeral in advance. Fortunately, he then began practising Falun Gong and benefited both physically and mentally.

After the Chinese Communist Party under Jiang Zemin, [former leader of China and instigator of the persecution] began persecuting Falun Gong on July 20th, 1999, Mr. Zhuang was sent to forced labour camps three times.

His first arrest took place in December 1999. Mr. Zhuang was placed under criminal detention for 45 days and then detained for six months afterward. He was physically abused and tortured in detention. Diaobingshan City Detention Centre guards instigated criminal Wang Dong to torture him. Wang slapped Mr. Zhuang's face with shoe soles, stabbed his neck with metal wires, and poured cold water over him. Wang also starved Mr. Zhuang by giving him only a small amount of food, took away his daily necessities, denied him tissue paper for restroom use, deprived him of sleep for 45 consecutive days, burned his toes with cigarette butts, and denied him toilet use even when he suffered from diarrhea. The guards also tried to forcefully “transform” [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] Mr. Zhuang.

The second arrest took place on April 8th, 2002, when Mr. Zhuang was coerced by authorities into going to the Daming Police Station. Police chief Liu and five officers ruthlessly beat him, breaking and distorting his breastbone and fracturing his ribs. The perpetrators also stepped on his neck and throat, causing him to be unable to take in any food for many days. He was bedridden and vomited blood for more than a month afterward. Ms. Zhuang was held in local detention centre for days before he was sent to a forced labour camp for a three-year term.

On April 15th, 2009, Zhang Fenglai, Wang Xueping and other officers from the local Domestic Security Division ransacked Mr. Zhuang Haisen's home. Mr. Zhuang's father, who was in his 80s, was so frightened that he had to be hospitalized and died shortly thereafter.

On February 22nd, 2012, Mr. Zhuang was walking in the Dianchang Residential area when a car stopped beside him to ask for directions. Mr. Zhuang handed the person a Shen Yun Performing Arts DVD. The man in the car turned out to be an officer from the Nanling Police Station. The police arrested Mr. Zhuang, ransacked his home and confiscated his personal belongings, including two MP3 players, and Falun Gong books.

Police officers involved in the persecution of Mr. Zhuang Haisen:

Li Yaodong, local police: +86-15941025111

Note

1. Shen Yun Performing Arts is a New York based company showing traditional Chinese culture through classical dance and music. Some dance pieces in the show depict the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China and how they show their compassion under extreme conditions.
