Youth is the most precious time in a person's life and it passes in the blink of an eye. Everyone has the right to safely experience the peace and happiness of their youth. However, many young people in China have been living in fear and deprived of their basic human rights just because they persist in their belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.

1. Sisters Zhang Xiaoling and Zhang Yueqi Sentenced to Forced Labour

At the end of April 2000, Zhang Xiaoling, Chen Ruzhen, Zhang Shaohua, Liu Shaoshan, and Liu Qiongjuan rode their bicycles to Beijing to appeal for the right to practise Falun Gong. They travelled from their hometown in Gurao Town in the Chaoyang District of Shantou City, Guangdong Province, and were all arrested. Ms. Zhang Xiaoling was first detained at the Meihua Drug Rehabilitation Centre for 25 days and then in the Shangbao Team. She was brutally beaten by Zhang Zemin. Both of her legs turned black and blue and were badly swollen, which made walking very difficult. She was later released and allowed to return home. However, her home was monitored, and the police frequently broke in to harass and arrest her.

Later, Zhang Xiaoling was arrested while at home and taken to the Gurao Security Team, where she was detained in a dark, rat-infested room. Her mother, Deng Xiuying, a widow, brought her younger daughter, 4-year-old Zhang Yueqi, to visit Zhang Xiaoling. She knew Zhang Xiaoling was frightened, so she handed Yueqi to her through the prison window, so that she would be comforted by her. Zhang Xiaoling held little Yueqi for three long days and nights inside the dark, dirty, and damp prison cell. Her mother could not bear to see her daughter suffering in prison, but the police would not allow her to stay with Xiaoling. So she temporarily left her four-year-old daughter Yueqi to comfort her.

In the summer of 2011, Yueqi graduated from middle school and went to Guangzhou to visit Xiaoling. She was looking forward to attending high school. On the afternoon of August 3rd, Zhang Yueqi and Zhang Xiaoling were reported to the authorities for distributing Falun Gong fliers to the public inside a restaurant in the Huangpu District. They were arrested and taken to the Dasha Police Station in the Huangpu District. Yueqi, now 16 years old, was sentenced to one year forced labour. Her sister, Zhang Xiaoling, was sentenced to forced labour for two years. Both of them are now in Chatou Forced Labour Camp in Guangzhou City.

2. Ms. Xu Lu, 18, Arrested for Sharing Her Cure for Hair Loss

Ms. Xu Lu, 18, is from Gong'an County in Hubei Province. She is studying nursing at the Gong'an County Vocational Middle School.

At around 3:00 p.m. on October 25th, 2011, Ms. Xu's mother received a call from her teacher, Ma Yan. He said that he needed to talk with Ms. Xu about some exams. When Ms. Xu arrived at the school, the head of Gong'an County 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), Xie Feng, and the deputy chief of the Domestic Security Division, Liao Xuesheng, arrested her and took her to a brainwashing centre.

On November 1st, it was alleged that Ms. Xu had been on a hunger strike for five days to protest her treatment. Two teachers from her school were sent to monitor her. After they returned to school, two others were sent to replace them. Officials at the brainwashing centre have not allowed Ms. Xu's parents to visit her, and they are very worried about her.

Ms. Xu was arrested for telling her friends via the Internet that her practice of Falun Gong had cured her hair loss. She didn't realize that the Internet was being monitored by the Jingzhou City Intelligence Agency. Investigations were conducted about her in the local community. Her neighbours unknowingly disclosed that Ms. Xu's family was very pleased to be practicing Falun Gong. They also investigated her family's financial situation in an attempt to extort money from her family. They gave up after they learned that her family was not wealthy.

3. 24-Year-Old Young Woman Died Due to Brutal Persecution

In 2006, at the age of 19, Ms. Wang Yujie from Xiantao City, Hubei Province, went to Wuhan City to work odd jobs. There she learned about Falun Gong and started to practice. On March 11th, 2010, she was arrested for posting Falun Gong informational stickers and speaking with psople about Falun Gong near the Manchun Police Station in Wuhan. She was held in the Wuhan No. 1 Detention Centre for 15 days. The Jianghan District 610 Office took her to the Erdaopeng Brainwashing Centre in the Jianghan District, where she was secretly sentenced to one year of forced labour. She was only 22 years old.

On April 2nd, 2010, Ms. Wang was taken to the sixth ward of Hewan Forced Labour Camp in Wuhan. Hu Fang, the head of the ward, ordered the inmates with drug offences to torture her. They made her squat every day, deprived her of sleep, and made her stand all day long. The inmates threatened her by saying, “If you don't 'transform' after two weeks, we will make up an excuse so that we can hang you up by the handcuffs.” Ms. Wang refused to be “transformed” [forcibly renounce Falun Gong]. Hu Fang ordered inmate Cao Wenli to twist Ms. Wang's left ankle. While Ms. Wang's ankle was still swollen and injured, Cao Wenli and another inmate, Zhou Yan, handcuffed her. She was then beaten and kicked for about 40 minutes.

Ms. Wang finished her term in the labour camp on March 11th, 2011. However, the Xiantao City 610 Office picked her up from the labour camp at 9:00 a.m. the day she should have been released, and she was taken to the notorious Hubei Province Brainwashing Centre.

On May 17th, 2011, after two months of brainwashing, Wang Yang, head of the Xiantao City 610 Office, and Xiao Aiyun picked Ms. Wang up from the Domestic Security Team and took her back to her hometown of Xiantao City. The torture during the forced labour term and the brainwashing centre left Ms. Wang in extremely poor physical condition. She was unable to recover and died on the morning of September 3rd, 2011, at the age of 24.

4. Hu Miaomiao, a 25-Year-Old Preschool Teacher, Severely Abused During Detention

Ms. Hu Miaomiao was arrested on June 15th, 2010, for distributing leaflets exposing the persecution. The preschool where she worked also had to be shut down. Without following any legal procedures or informing her family, the local police sentenced her to one year of forced labour and transferred her to the Hebei Province Women's Forced Labour Camp in Shijiazhuang City on June 26th, 2010.

As soon as Ms. Hu arrived, a group of inmates dragged her into a storage room where they tightly handcuffed her to a metal bed. They also slapped her repeatedly in the face and mouth until her face swelled up. Before Ms. Hu was attacked, guard Wang Weiwei had taken inmate Zong Dongrong to a dark, narrow storage room. The inmate and Ms. Hu would occupy the same space so that inmate Zong could abuse Ms. Hu. Zong intentionally displayed ugly, dirty, and unsightly behaviour. She relieved herself inside the storage room, then picked up her faeces in her hands and threw it all over, in order to nauseate Ms. Hu, who loves beautiful things and a clean environment. Zong made the entire place filthy. She mistreated Ms. Hu day and night, and would scream, cry, and whine. For over ten days in this completely sealed off, small, dark room, Zong continued this deranged behaviour non-stop.

On August 28th, 2010, Ms. Hu seemed upset with the hard labor she was being forced to do. Guard Hou Junmei immediately sent her to a confinement cell, where drug addicts Cheng Qiaoyun and Li Lingling were called in to monitor her. Hou then handcuffed Zong Dongrong and Ms. Hu together. They were cuffed together all of the time, even during meals and while using the toilet. During the confinement of being cuffed together, many people heard Ms. Hu's piercing screams when she was being abused. Also at this time, Zong attacked Ms. Hu in the genital area repeatedly with her knees. She also used broom handles and fingers to assault Ms. Hu's genitals. Ms. Hu bled profusely and she couldn’t stand up straight or walk. The injuries have made it very likely that she will be unable to have children.

Summary

The persecution suffered by Ms. Zhang Xiaoli and her sister Zhang Yueqi, Ms. Xu Lu, Ms. Wang Yujie and Ms. Hu Miaomiao are but a few examples of many cases of young women subjected to severe persecution simply because they wish to practise Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. These young girls have experienced insult and torture throughout what should be the best time of their lives. They suffered just because they persisted in their belief and clarified the facts about the persecution of Falun Gong. The Chinese Communist regime is persecuting innocent young people and violating the rights of all Chinese citizens.

We urge all people in China to help these young people by refusing to participate or cooperate with any of the persecution. With more people upholding righteousness and courage, the young may again enjoy their youth.
