On April 24th, 2008, the Benxi Police Department in Liaoning Province arrested 40 Falun Gong practitioners, including Ms. Jiang Lei from Huanren County. At 7:30 a.m that day, Ms. Jiang was taken away in front of her home by several officers who had driven two police vehicles to her home. The police also ransacked her home and took away a desktop computer, laptop, printer, mobile phone, and other property. Ms. Jiang was taken to the Huanren Detention Centre. Later on, she was sentenced to five years in prison and sent to the Elderly and Disabled Division of Shenyang Women's Prison, which is called “the Eleventh Division.”

Liaoning Women's Prison tortured Ms. Jiang in every way possible to try to force her to give up practising Falun Gong. Between November 3rd and 15th, 2010, the guards handcuffed Ms. Jiang's hands and feet to a metal bed, separately. This is called the “death bed” torture. As a result, Ms. Jiang developed tuberculosis and heart problems. Her recent condition is unknown.

Ms. Liu Zhi from Shenyang was taken away in front of her residence by six policemen on July 12th, 2011. She was taken to the Liaoning Women's Prison. At the time, she was in very good health. However, when her family went to visit her in September 2011, they found her on the verge of death and in need of emergency treatment even though the guards said she was fine. When Ms. Liu's family went to visit her in November 2011, she said she could not feel anything in her lower body and was incontinent. However, the guards still did not allow her to be released on bail for emergency treatment.
