Chongqing Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Fu Rufang, 59 years old, was the principal inspector at the Tongnan County Disease Control Centre; she is now retired. Before she began cultivating Falun Gong, she suffered from serious illnesses. In June 1996, after she began practising Falun Gong, all her diseases were gone. However, when the Chinese Communist Party launched the persecution of Falun Gong, Tongnan County diseases control centre officials coordinated with the police to persecute Ms. Fu. Throughout the more than ten years she has been persecuted, she has been imprisoned and tortured many times. Here is her account of the mistreatment she has been subjected to.

After practising Falun Gong, all my long-term diseases disappeared

I was very devoted to my work, and after several years of working long hours, my health seriously declined. I suffered from several illnesses such as Hepatitis B, nephritis, and many other conditions. In 1991, because of the heavy workload, my hepatitis and thyroid-related eye disease began rapidly worsening. In June 1996, I was so fortunate to be introduced to Falun Gong. I immediately began practising and strictly followed the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. After two months, all my diseases were gone.

Going to Beijing to appeal

On July 20th, 1999, Jiang Zemin's, [former leader of China and instigator of the persecution] gang started the persecution of Falun Gong. On January 23rd, 2000, I went to Beijing to appeal with other practitioners, and we were arrested. It's cold in Beijing in January, and we were only wearing thin clothing. However, at the Tiananmen police station, the officers turned the fan up to maximum, setting it to blow on us for two hours. When we were transferred to the Chongqing Liaison Office in Beijing, the police beat me. Eighteen practitioners slept on the cold, hard floor for three nights without any quilts or mattresses. Two practitioners were in their 80s.

On the morning of January 26th, 2000, Tongnan County police officer Tang Shoufeng and Health and Epidemic Prevention Station deputy head Liu Zhide brought us back.

On the evening of January 27th, I was taken to the Tongnan County Detention Centre and imprisoned for 33 days. While I was imprisoned, my house was repeatedly ransacked, and many of my personal possessions were stolen. The police took my Falun Gong books. After February 28th, I was put into detention for another 85 days.

430 days in the forced labour camp

After being detained for 70 days, I was released. However, on August 2nd, 2000, at around 9:00 am, Zhang Liang and Zhong Ming came with other thugs, entered my home, and ordered me to go to the police station to verify something. When we arrived at the police station, Zhang Liang put handcuffs on me. That night, I was detained at the police station in the same room as a male prisoner. I was not allowed to sleep for four days and three nights.

At 5:00 pm on August 6th, I was sent to the detention centre and detained for 50 days.

On September 25th, I was sent to the Maojiashan Women's Forced Labour Camp and detained for 430 days. To protest, I went on hunger strikes four times. On September 27th, 2001, Liu Chaoli from the police station came to pick me up. Instead of being released, however, I was taken to the Tongnan County Detention Centre. I went on a hunger strike to protest. I didn't return home until October 7th, 2001.

During the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) 16th Party Congress, I was picked up

Around 3:00 p.m. on October 29th, 2002, I was at work. Officer Zhang Liang and others rushed into my office and rummaged around. I was grabbed, manhandled into a police car, and taken to the detention centre. Many of my personal belongings were later stolen from my home. Falun Gong lecture CDs, Falun Gong exercise practice tapes, and the book Zhuan Falun were all taken. Later, I learned that Zhang Liang told my manager, “The 16th Party Congress is about to convene, so Falun Gong practitioners have to be arrested.” I went on a hunger strike to protest.

On the morning of November 5th, 2002, Zhang Liang brutally force-fed me. He didn't unplug the tube until blood flowed up from my lung. Then he plugged the oxygen tube.

To make sure he wouldn't be held responsible for my death, Zhang Liang sent me to the county hospital to have an X-ray. He ordered the doctor to falsify the report and state that he didn't injure my lung. Then Zhang Liang sent me to a detention centre. On the way there, I kept vomiting blood, but they would not take out the tube. After we arrived at the detention centre, Zhang Liang ordered that I be placed on oxygen. After less than two minutes, I could not breathe. I had excruciating pain in my chest and I was dizzy. I kept vomiting blood. Frightened that I would die, they took me to the hospital.

At the hospital, the doctor could not find my pulse. When Zhang Liang saw that I was about to die, he left me to the doctor. The hospital sent out a critical condition notice. When I came out of the ER, I was extremely weak, and both my lungs ached tremendously.

Making an appeal

I wrote down the violent criminal activities perpetrated by Zhang Liang and his group and sent the facts to the Procuratorate to file a suit.

On the morning of July 19th, around 11 o'clock, domestic security team officers Yuan Xueping, Luo Yonghong, and several local officers took me into custody me, shoved me into a police car, and drove me to the police station. They also ransacked my home. Zhang Liang detained me for 15 days claiming that I “disrupted the social order.” He took me to the detention centre around 6:00 p.m. that same day.

From July 19th to 22nd, I went on a hunger strike for four days.

I submitted a formal appeal to the Chongqing legal system on August 6th, 2004. On the morning of October 15th, domestic security team officers Li Hengyi and Luo Yonghong sent me an "Administration decision letter.” The Tongna County Court accepted the appeal I submitted on October 19th.

However, I didn't get a notice until November 15th, 2004. When I went to the court to inquire about it, the court receptionist said he could not file a appeal for Falun Gong practitioners.

Arrested five times, sent to the labour camp twice

I was taken into custody again on my way home on April 8th, 2005. I went on a hunger strike for eight days and escaped the detention centre. On May 22nd, I was picked up again and taken to the Maojiashan Forced Labour Camp. Less than a month after being detained, my two front teeth were broken due to severe beatings. I was reduced to skin and bones and very weak.

As a result of beatings while detained at the forced labour camp, my entire body was covered with large black and purple bruises. After I didn't have any food for two days, the guards ordered five criminal inmates to force-feed me. For about two weeks they kept on feeding me watery rice porridge laced with unknown drugs. Three times they inserted the tube into my lungs instead of my stomach. When the criminals beat me, they broke off my two front teeth.

My clothes were covered with blood, rice porridge, and the drugs. My mouth and lips were ragged from the forceps they used to pry my mouth open. They were constantly bloody and swollen.

As a result of the unknown drugs they added into the porridge, even my armpits erupted with sores and pustules that festered. I didn't have any salt for more than a month nor did I defecate. I was extremely malnourished and reduced to skin and bones.

As a result of the overwhelming heat of summer and harsh conditions in the detention centre, my whole body was covered with prickly heat. I had a persistent fever and was so weak that I could hardly stand in the drill position that I was ordered to maintain as a means of torture. I collapsed several times, and when I did, the inmates immediately beat and kicked me. They forced me to stand up. After being repeatedly beaten like this, my feet, legs, and the areas under my knees swelled. Later my entire body swelled.

We had to write a reflection report every night and were forced to read books that slandered Falun Gong and watch slanderous videos. Every month or two, we had to attend a criticism meeting. I was forced to write a reflection report every night. If what I wrote didn't meet their expectations, they would force me to rewrite it and not allow us to sleep.

By April 2006, I was very weak due to prolonged torture and abuse. The flesh on my entire lower abdomen turned purple and then green, and there were two hard lumps. I was as skinny as a stick and only weighed 77 pounds. My lower abdomen was swollen and periodically hurt. It hurt so much that my face turned pale. Sometimes I became unconscious and lapsed into a coma because of the pain. Shortly after, I lost control of my bowels. The officers sent me to the Daping Military Hospital. I heard the doctor say that I had symptoms of malignant pathological changes in my intestines and might have cancer.

I was supposed to be released in November 2006. However, I was extremely weak due to the persecution. The day I was released, my son and husband came to pick me up. However, the labour camp officials did not want to let me go, using the excuse that I was not “transformed.” [forcibly renounce Falun Gong] They ordered my company to closely monitor me after I returned home.

After I returned home, I was diagnosed with cancer. I had unbearable pain in my lower abdomen, and my stool was bloody. On December 8th, 2008, around five in the afternoon, seven or eight police officers barged into my home and scrambled around, rummaging through our belongings. They took my husband's laptop, as well as my son's. They also stole my mobile phone, U disk, and other personal property. I was forced to leave my home.

My company tried to find me. In June, 2011, they stopped my pension and told me I had to write the three statements to renounce practising Falun Gong.

Persecuted by my workplace: more than 100,000 yuan in salary stolen

I became completely healthy after practising Falun Gong. This has saved the regime's government several tens of thousands of yuan1 in medical expenses over the last 15 years! Instead of being grateful to Falun Gong, I was persecuted by the regime and had money extorted from me. My company has embezzled my salary, stealing more than one hundred thousand yuan from me.

I have been detained more than 1,130 days, including 540 days without any living subsidy or salary.

From October 2001 until June 2003, I was paid 374 yuan less than the same level employee who earned 1078 yuan.

At my job, there was a salary adjustment in December 2006. I should have been adjusted to Level 29 but they only gave me Level 15. That is over 400 yuan less compared to what I should be earning. This adjustment began in 2004. It has been seven years since the adjustment, and each year I've been robbed of 6,000 yuan in salary, or 42,000 yuan over seven years.

On December 8th, 2008, in the afternoon, the officers stole my cell phone, U disk, and two laptops, as well as other items. Their total value was 13,360 yuan.

In April 2006, I was found to have cancer as a result of how I was treated in the labour camp and spent more than 2,000 yuan on medical expenses.
