Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Shengyu was violently arrested at his home by eight officers from the Yangjiang 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong), the Yangxi 610 Office, the Xitou Town Border Control Police Station, and the Xitou Town Residential Committee at 4:00 p.m. on November 1st. The officers did not show a warrant and broke into the residential home.

The officers searched the house for anything of value. They stole two printers, a computer, a laptop, Falun Gong books, electronic books, Falun Gong materials, and about 700 yuan1 in cash.

At the time, Mr. Li Shengyu’s wife, also a practitioner, was on her way home from grocery shopping. Someone kindly told her what was going on at her home and suggested that she not return home for the moment. His wife then called his two sisters and let them know what was happening. When the sisters arrived, the police had already tied up Mr. Li’s hands and feet with a rope, and he could not move or sit. (Mr. Li’s family had used the rope to get water out of a well, and the police cut it down.) One of Mr. Li’s eyes was hurt and bleeding, and had not been treated.

When the sisters asked why the police why they were arresting and beating their brother, the officers threatened them and told them not to ask, otherwise, they would be arrested, too. Many neighbours heard the sisters and condemned the authorities. The police worried about how things appeared and locked the door, waiting for Mr. Li’s wife. They did not leave until 6:00 p.m.

Mr. Li’s family looked for him everywhere after his arrest. In the afternoon on November 4th, they learned that he was detained in the Yangxi Police Station Public Security Detention Centre. His wife could not return home for fear of arrest. She is now homeless.

Mr. Li Shengyu and his wife were arrested by Rudong Town Police Station in 2005 during the Chinese New Year. They were sent to a forced labour camp for three years.
