Practitioner Mr. Wu Zhanwei is from Huangdao District, Qingdao City, Shandong Province. On October 10th, his family learned that he had been sentenced to a four-year prison term. According to Mr. Wu’s wife, he has been persecuted to the point where he has become extremely weak and muddleheaded.

Mr. Wu was arrested on June 11th, 2011 by officers from the Changjianglu Police Station, Qingdao Economic Development District in Qingdao City, and taken to Huangdao District Detention Centre. On October 10th, Mr. Wu’s cousin received a phone call from an official saying that a Huangdao District Court judge sentenced Mr. Wu to four years in prison and that family members needed to visit him at the detention centre. Mr. Wu’s family was shocked to learn of his sentence since they have never received any notice of his hearing, a court summons, or the verdict.

Mr. Wu’s wife, his parents, daughter, and son went to visit him the next day on October 11th. At that time, Mr. Wu was very thin and weak. He was also muddleheaded. His family almost didn't recognise him. A few months prior to his arrest, Mr. Wu was very strong and clearheaded.

He told them that prior to October 1st, without informing his family, the Huangdao District Police Department, the political committee, and the detention centre didn’t allow his family to visit him, and took him to Shandong Prison where the officials refused to accept him. They had to bring him back to Liuhuapo Detention Centre. When Mr. Wu demanded to see his family, they didn’t allow it until October 11th. From October 13th-20th, Mr. Wu’s wife went to the Huangdao District Police Department, the Procuratorate, the court, the Domestic Security Division, the political committee, and the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) to demand her husband's release, but to no avail.
