From mid-August of this year to the end of October, thirteen practitioners were arrested and harassed, and their homes were ransacked. Among them, Ms. Zhang Guizhi, Ms. Zhang Xiuying, Ms. Yang Xiufen and eight other practitioners are still being held.

Ms. Zhang Guizhi and Ms. Zhang Xiuying Arrested

On August 19th, 2011, Zhang Yue, director of the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) in Tonghe County; and Liu Peimin, director of the County Police Department Domestic Security Division; together with some other people, ransacked Ms. Zhang Xiuying's home and rental residence. They confiscated her personal property. Later they went to the Qinxiangyuan Bakery run by Ms. Zhang Guizhi and Ms. Zhang Xiuying and arrested them. They confiscated 7,000 yuan1 in cash and property valued over 10,000 yuan, including a computer, without providing any sort of legal document. The two practitioners were taken to the Tonghe County Detention Centre.

Ms. Zhang Guizhi was previously a doctor of the Tonghe County Women's and Children's Hospital. On December 4th, 2009, she was assigned to be trained at the No. 1 Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Province Medical University. She temporarily lived in Daowai District, Harbin City. On the night of December 14th, 2009, she, together with four other practitioners, was arrested by police officers from Ewenke Autonomous Prefecture, Inner Mongolia and taken to Ewenke Autonomous Prefecture. She was later sentenced to one and a half years of forced labour, but was released because she didn't pass the physical exam on June 1st, 2010. She was not allowed to go back to work because of the 610 Office's interference. Because she did not have any income, she opened a bakery with Ms. Zhang Xiuying in 2011. During that period, she continuously wrote letters to the local 610 Office, the police department, the Procuratorate, and the court to explain the facts about Falun Gong and persuade them to try to come to know the true situation about Falun Gong. Because of this, she was arrested again.

Ms. Yang Xiufen and Two Other Practitioners Harassed

On August 22nd, 2011, Ms. Yang Xiufen, from Qinghe Town, went to Zhang Yue, the director of the local 610 Office, to request the release of another practitioner and was arrested. That afternoon, police officers ransacked her home and confiscated her personal property. Earlier this year, from June 16th to June 23rd, police officers Hao Lianhai, Song Anshu, and Luan Hongtao, from Qinghe Town Police Station, went to Ms. Yang's home to harass her. They also continuously went to Ms. Xu Xiuying's home each day for three days to harass her. One day, they even went to her home three times because Ms. Xu was not there. They forcefully took photos of Mr. Zhang Yingqi, who firmly criticized them. It is believed that Ms. Yang is still being detained.

Eight Practitioners Arrested

From midnight on October 23rd to the early morning of October 24th, 2011, police officers in Tonghe County arrested eight practitioners from Sankeshu Region, Daowai District, Harbin City for distributing Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution in Tonghe County. The practitioners were Mr. Liu Qingguo, Ms. Song Jinfeng, Ms. Liang Huimin, Mr. Li Liguo, Mr. Xu Xiaohua, Mr. Zhao Jiurong, Ms. Cao Zeping, and Ms. Liu Jun. At present, they are being held at the Tonghe County Detention Centre. Their family members went to the Tonghe County Police Department to ask for their release but their request was rejected.
