Practitioner Ms. Qiao Huarong is a citizen of Fengjiazhuang Village, Xuzhuang Township, Jizhou City, Hebei Province. She lived at Jizhou Middle School. Since the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) began its persecution of Falun Gong, Ms. Qiao has been detained many times. In November 2008, she was sentenced to four years in prison. Since then, she has been detained at Hebei Women's Prison and subjected to brutal persecution.

Ms. Qiao used to be a hot-tempered person. Since 1998, when she began to practise Falun Gong, she has been following the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Practising Falun Gong has transformed her into a new person.

In March 2001, because of practising Falun Gong, she was arrested and detained at a restaurant named Hubinlou in Jizhou City, where she was forced to write a guarantee statement to renounce practising Falun Gong. She went on a hunger strike to resist the persecution, and she was released after 11 days.
However, within a week after she was released to go home, she was arrested again and detained at a training base in Jizhou City to go through forced brainwashing. People who were responsible for carrying out the brainwashing were Han Kuijie and Wang Xijiu, both of the Political and Judicial Committee, Wang Zhenxia from the Police Department and others. At the brainwashing session, they tortured Ms. Qiao and other practitioners. Some of the methods they used included not allowing them to go to the washroom, playing loud music in the room with the doors and windows shut, and forcing them to watch videos defaming Falun Gong. When practitioners did not give up their belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, staff at the brainwashing centre kicked them and beat them with rubber batons. As a result, Ms. Qiao fainted twice. It was not until after six months of torture that Ms. Qiao was released. On August 29th, 2003, Zhao Guosheng from the Political and Security Department in the Police Department broke into her home. In order to avoid persecution, she had to climb over the wall to escape. After that, she had to go from place to avoid further persecution, and this lasted for two years. After she returned home, the CCP officers kept harassing her. On the evening of October 19th, 2007, people from the Political and Security Department arrested her and took her away. After several days of being on a hunger strike, she was released.

On the afternoon of July 4th, 2008, deputy team leader of the Domestic Security Department in Hengshui City, Hebei Province broke into Ms. Qiao's home, where they confiscated 800 yuan1 in cash, a computer and other items. They then arrested her. Under the direction of Zuo Tiehan from Hengshui Domestic Security Department, police officers Du Jianting and Wang Bin beat her for three hours. At 10:00 p.m., they took her to the duty room, where they shocked her with electric batons and beat her with rubber batons and other objects.

Ms. Qiao compassionately told them that what they were doing was not good for them. A short man in his mid-thirties replied: "As long as you don't confess, we'll continue beating you, probably until 8 o'clock tomorrow." After they had been beating her for a while, Zuo came in and asked if she had confessed. Hearing that she had refused, he stepped out and then had the other two men beat her again. This continued until 1:00 a.m., when the men were exhausted. They handcuffed her to an iron chair, and then they headed off. At daylight, they came back with rubber and electric batons in their hands, and they used rubber batons to beat her again. The short man slapped her face very hard, and didn't stop until Ms. Qiao passed out.

The cruel torture caused severe injuries. When Ms. Qiao was detained at the Hengshui Detention Centre, she was very weak, and her life was in grave danger. Even so, she was forced to make wreaths. They gave her a production quota of 23 per day. If she didn't finish making them, she could not go to sleep. One time, she lost consciousness and fell to the floor. Instead of giving her proper treatment, guards shocked her with electric batons. Moreover, they didn't allow others to give her any help.

On November 4th and 18th, 2008, Ms. Qiao was brought to trial twice at Jizhou City Court. At the court, unjust charges brought against her from Jizhou City Procuratorate were refuted by two lawyers that her family members had hired. The lawyers filed a not-guilty appeal for her. Both times, the judges had to wrap up the session hastily. Knowing that they had no grounds for giving her a sentence, they secretly sentenced her to four years in prison, without letting her family members or lawyers know.

In March 2009, Ms. Qiao was detained at Hebei Women's Prison at Shijiazhuang City. She is still being detained there and subject to persecution. She has a mother in her seventies at her house and a child. Because her husband has a teaching job and takes care of his family on his own, he is having a very difficult time. We hope that kind people will reach out to support and rescue Falun Gong practitioners who try to be good people by following the principles of Truth-Compassion-Forbearance.
