Engineer Hu Chunqing Remains Steadfast in His Belief Despite Torture

Falun Gong practitioner Hu Chunqing is a civil engineer who designs and builds roads and bridges. During the 12-year persecution of Falun Gong by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), Mr. Hu was sentenced to a forced labour camp for a term of two years and he never gave up his belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. In the forced labour camp, he was brutally tortured. The officers deprived Mr. Hu of sleep for a period of nine days and nights by forcing him to stand outside in the freezing winter cold. They poured cold water over him and then shocked him with electric batons. They pushed his head into the toilet and force fed him urine.

Hu Chunqing lived in Xiangmen, Suzhou. In 1997, he began to practise Falun Gong, and very soon his mind and body become healthy. As he began to understand the true meaning of life, he felt his own life was deeply enriched.

On July 20th, 1999, when the CCP and Jiang Zemin, [former leader of China and instigator of the persecution] started to persecute Falun Gong, Hu went to appeal for Falun Gong at the end of 2000. Hu was arrested and detained in the Northeast Detention Centre. He was beaten there, and then sent back to Suzhou.

In April 2002, when Hu mailed out Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution to help the Chinese people understand the facts about Falun Gong, he was arrested and taken to Shangfangshan Brainwashing Centre, Suzhou, by the Pingjiang District Political and Judiciary Committee in Suzhou.

Liu Shuangrong, a political security section leader in the Pingjiang District Public Security Branch in Suzhou, pressured Hu to give up his belief in Truth-Compassion-Forbearance. Hu refused firmly, and was transferred to the No. 1 Detention Centre. In August, Mr. Hu was sent to the Fangqiang Forced Labour Camp in Dafeng, Jiangsu Province, and detained there for two years.

In the Fangqiang Forced Labour Camp, policeman Zhang Liansheng designated two collaborators (former practitioners, brainwashed against Falun Gong, made to assist in brainwashing and torturing practitioners) to watch over Hu around the clock. Hu was forced to listen to them slander Falun Gong during the day and was not allowed to sleep at night. When he would not cooperate with them, the collaborators would shock Hu with an electric baton given to them by secretary Wang Fei.

In January 2003, Mr. Hu was forced to stand for a whole day outside in the cold wind. He then was detained in a strictly controlled group, where eight inmates tortured him. Mr. Hu's head was pushed into the toilet, and faeces and urine came into his mouth and nose. Cold water was poured over him again and again as team leader Wei Yun shocked him with electric batons.

In October 2003, Mr. Hu was transferred into the fourth team, where Falun Gong practitioners are specifically targeted for persecution. Policeman Zhu Kanglin stopped him from sleeping over a period of five days and nights.

Tang Guofang is a director who persecutes Falun Gong at the Department of Labour in Jiangsu Province. When he saw that Mr. Hu would not give up his belief, he employed methods from other regions around China to torture him.

Mr. Hu was taken to Jiangsu Women's Forced Labour Camp. Policewomen Zheng Qihui, Ding Hui, and Zhou Ying took turns torturing him for 20 consecutive days. At one time he was not allowed to sleep for nine days and nights, nor was he allowed to go to the restroom. They utilised all kinds of methods to brutally torture him and still Mr. Hu would not give up his belief.

Mr. Hu then was taken back to the fourth team in Fangqiang Forced Labour Camp, and tortured by secretary Wang Fei, Wei Honghui, Pan Yuehua, Jiang Xinhui, Chen Jinxiang, Xu Yuhong, and Zhou Hongbiao. Mr. Hu has remained steadfast in his belief all this time. His imprisonment term was extended for another four months before he was released.
