The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has repeatedly persecuted Ms. Peng Dongbin, a retired doctor from the Miluo City Blood Protection Office in Hunan Province, for the past 12 years. They have harassed, arrested and detained her, ransacked her home, and extorted money from her family. Below is a brief account of the persecution she has suffered to date.

Terminal cancer cured with Falun Gong practice

Ms. Peng Dongbin, 60, is a native of Miluo City, Hunan Province. Prior to 1996, when she started to practise Falun Gong, she suffered from cholecystitis, schistosomiasis, rheumatoid arthritis, and anaemia. She was also diagnosed with cervical cancer in 1995. After receiving 80 days of intensive treatment at a hospital, she was told that since the cancer was in late stage and had spread, surgery or further treatment would be ineffective. Therefore, she was discharged. Afterward, her cholecystitis also became worse, and sometimes she lost consciousness from severe pain.

After Ms. Peng learned Falun Gong in early 1996, her physical condition improved. She became stronger and even went back to work in March of the same year.

Prior to Falun Gong cultivation, Ms. Peng was also hot-tempered and often fought with her husband. After starting the practice, however, she disciplined herself with the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and began to treat him and everyone else kindly.

Persecuted for 12 years for Practising Falun Gong

The communist regime began to persecute Falun Gong on July 20th, 1999. Ms. Peng went to Beijing at the end of 1999 to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. However, as soon as she got there, Beijing police agents arrested her. A week later, Miluo police escorted her back to Miluo City. She was detained for one month, during which time her salary was withheld.

Ms. Peng was arrested again in 2000. She was detained in the Miluo City Armed Forces Department for ten days and subjected to brainwashing. She was also forced to pay a daily 100 yuan1 fee.

In early 2001, Political and Security Section head Wu Youxian from the Miluo City Police Department, brought a group of agents to search Ms. Peng's home and office. They confiscated many of her personal belongings.

On July 17th, 2002, Huang from the Miluo Blood Protection Office (Ms. Peng's workplace), along with agents from the Miluo City Police Department, searched Ms. Peng’s residence and then took Ms. Peng to a police station and detained her until the next morning. Once released, she went to see her mother at a relative’s home. When the police did not find her at home, they searched for her and later deducted 3,000 yuan from her paycheck to cover their alleged searching costs. On the third day, police arrested her at home once again and held her at a detention centre, where she started to vomit and could not swallow food. Officials were afraid of taking responsibility for her weakening condition, so they released her on bail for medical treatment – but only after the police extorted 5,000 yuan from her family.

Miluo City Domestic Security Division and Taolin Police Station agents arrested Ms. Peng again when she explained the facts about Falun Gong on May 11th. They extorted several thousand yuan from her family before she releasing her.

Miluo City Blood Protection Office ordered Ms. Peng and her husband to appear at their office on the afternoon of June 28th. They demanded Ms. Peng to sign a guarantee statement to denounce Falun Gong and threatened that her pension would be withheld if she refused to sign. Under the pressure of the persecution, her husband indicated that he wanted to divorce her. In addition, her employer, the Miluo Blood Protection Office, ordered her to report to a brainwashing facility on July 3rd.
