Three of Mr. Zheng Fengxiang’s family members went to Gongzhuling Prison at around 8:00 a.m. on July 1st, 2011 to take him home after his four-year term ended. However, they were told that Mr. Zheng would only be released after officials from the Jilin 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) came to get him.

When it was close to 11:00 a.m., five officials from the Jilin 610 Office, in a large white jeep, drove directly into the prison and parked near the small door where the prison releases people. Mr. Zheng was then put into the jeep. Mr. Zheng’s family could only watch from afar since they weren't allowed to pass the prison gate. When the jeep got to the front gate of the prison, Mr. Zheng's family rushed over and sat down on the road to try to block the jeep. They cried and pleaded for Mr. Zheng's release. They said assertively, “The 610 Office is committing a crime. They told us we could take Zheng home, yet now you are taking him away illegally. Where are you taking him?”

Many passersby witnessed the incident. The officials from the 610 Office appeared scared and told the family to find Jiang from the Gaoxin District Bureau of Justice in Fengman, Jilin; Jiang’s phone number is 86-432-64671919. Three police officers then dragged the family to the roadside, rushed back into the jeep and drove away.

Mr. Zheng's family only knows that he was taken to the Sishe Welfare Brainwashing Centre in Xiaoguang Village, Shahezi, Jilin.

During his four years at Gongzhuling Prison, Mr. Zheng was subjected to various methods of torture. In early 2010, he was seriously mistreated and contracted tuberculosis. As a result, at one point he was in critical condition and taken to the prison clinic. Mr. Zheng's wife tried to get him released on medical bail after he had been held at the prison clinic for three months. The prison warden however, not only turned down Mr. Zheng’s wife’s request, but also told the guards to force her out of the prison. She didn't even get the opportunity to talk to the warden directly or see Mr. Zheng, who was in serious condition. She stood outside the prison wall for a day, but no one came out to meet with her. Early the next morning, she went to the related offices to request a visit with her husband, since she had travelled from far away, but to no avail. In the cold winter, she went to warm up in the room of the door guard. However, Warden An Ping ordered the guard to make her leave. As a result, Mr. Zheng's wife was forced to wait outside the prison in the cold for three days.

Mr. Zheng should have been released on July 1st, but unexpectedly, guard Zong Mingjun of Gongzhuling Prison conspired with the local 610 Office and Jiangnan Gaoxin Police Station to continue persecuting Mr. Zheng. Mr. Zheng's wife watched him being taken away by the police and didn't even get to talk to him. She sat by the side of the road and burst into tears.

An Ping, warden of Gongzhuling Prison: 86-434-6282001, 86-434-6289753 (office), 86-434-6452267 (home)
