The Department of Education officials in Xiong County, Hebei Province ordered that all teachers and students sign a statement to not practise Falun Gong. Furthermore, they demanded that students and teachers sign their names on a red scroll which had words written on it that denounced Falun Gong. In order to comply with this order, some schools even forced small children in first and second grade to sign their names. If the children did not sign, they were not allowed to go home.

Personnel from some township governments in Xiong County harassed Falun Gong practitioners multiple times. They forced the practitioners to write statements promising not to practise Falun Gong. They also pressured practitioners' family members.

The following is one example.

Ms. Wang Suxia is a practitioner in Dongzhuang Village, Zhanggang Township, Xiong County. She started practising Falun Gong in 1996. Prior to cultivation, she was paralysed and unable to take care of herself. Falun Gong gave her a new life. After cultivation, she became more energetic and was even able to do heavy work. Moreover, she became a very moral person. One day the shopping centre delivered an extra television to her home which was worth thirteen hundred yuan1. When she realised that the television was not hers, she immediately returned it.

After the Communist regime began persecuting Falun Gong practitioners, Ms. Wang Suxia was harassed and arrested multiple times. In 2003, Zhang, deputy director of Zhanggang Police Station, took Ms. Wang away from her home to the Daxinbachang Brainwashing Centre in the county. Ms. Wang was held in the brainwashing centre for seven to eight days. When her family saw that she was persecuted to the point where they could no longer recognise her and they requested to take her home, Shen, a brainwashing centre staff member, refused to release her. Finally, when her family became increasingly worried that her physical condition would get worse or she may even possibly become as sick as she was prior to cultivation, the brainwashing centre personnel had no choice but to send her home.

In February 2004, it was very cold outside. Su Shiliang, Director of County Domestic Security Division, came to Ms. Wang's home to take her to the police station. She refused to go with them. As the seven to eight men forcefully shoved her into the car, her clothes were torn and her shoes and socks were pulled off. At the station, she had to stand barefoot on the freezing floor. Due to the extremely cold weather, her body shook. Police shocked her with electric batons and forced her to kneel on an iron rod. She was not released until four hours later.

Recently, personnel from Dongzhuang Village and the Zhanggang Township Government went to Ms. Wang Suxia's home four times to harass her. They demanded that she sign the statement to not practise Falun Gong. She kept telling them how her physical condition improved after she began practising. Since they all live in the same village, everyone knows how she became healthier after practising Falun Gong. However, they would not listen to her and demanded that she go with them.

At the time, Ms. Wang Suxia's house was under construction. Moreover, an aunt who supported the family financially had just passed away, and she was about to hold her aunt's funeral. However, the village party secretary threatened her, “My director wants to see you. If you do not cooperate with us, you will be at risk.”

Because she had been persecuted so many times, Ms. Wang knew very well how evil the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is. To avoid further persecution, she tearfully had to leave her home. It was said that the next day personnel from Village Party Branch and Township Government came to her home and threatened her family, demanding that she write the guarantee statement to not practise Falun Gong. Now she cannot return home.
