Since Jiang Zemin's [former leader of China and instigator of the persecution] regime started to persecute Falun Gong in 1999, practitioner Ms. Wan Hongxia from Langfang City, Hebei Province, has been arrested and detained many times, including four times in detention centres, two times in brainwashing centres, and three years in prison.

Around 11 p.m. on May 12th, while Ms. Wan and another practitioner were distributing leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong close to the intersection of Xinkai Road and Jianguo Road, four policemen arrived. The two told the police that they were good people and were not breaking any law. They asked the police not to persecute good people. The officers did not listen to them, and after 20 minutes, several police cars arrived. Both of them were arrested and taken to Xinkai Road Police Station. The next day, Ms. Wan was transferred to Langfang City Brainwashing Centre. The other practitioner escaped from the police station.

Ms. Wan was employed at the Qianfeng Machine Plant. Before taking up the practice of Falun Gong, she used to have many illnesses. Severely injured in her youth, her ribs and legs were broken and she once had a brain tumour that caused severe pain and later paralysis on one side of her body. Although she went to see doctors in many hospitals, she did not improve. Rather, she became worse. After Ms. Wan started to practise Falun Gong, her health improved dramatically and the illnesses did not come back. She helped both her employer and the nation reduce medical expenses.

Ms. Wan used to have a happy family. After Jiang's regime began to persecute Falun Gong in 1999, her life was no longer peaceful. Because she did not give up her belief in Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance, she was detained four times, jailed in brainwashing centres twice, and sentenced to three years in a prison. Her company fired her.

After Ms. Wan's husband was detained for more than six months, he was sent to Tangshan Forced Labour Camp for three years. The police later returned to his home to harass Ms. Wan, who had no choice but leave home due to the constant harassment.

On June 17th, 2005, she was arrested by the Public Security Department of Langfang City. After that, the police pulled over her husband's car and arrested him. That afternoon, officers broke in and ransacked their home. Around 5 p.m., seven or eight officers arrived at her brother's and mother's homes. They wanted to search their homes, but were firmly turned away. Later, the relatives of the couple visited the public security department several times to look for them. The staff never told them anything. Once when her relatives were in the office, they were videotaped by the staff. Wan Hongxia's mother did not want to be videotaped without her permission, so she tried to stop them. Several policemen were then called in. One officer started to kick her and she fell down, hitting her head. A big lump later appeared on her head.

Ms. Wan Hongxia persisted in her belief and protested the persecution by holding a hunger strike. After a few days of being subjected to severe abuse, she was partially paralyzed and unable to take care of her own daily needs. She was sent to a detention centre, but was not admitted due to her terrible condition. However, the 610 Office agents (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) forced the detention centre to accept her. On August 16th, 2005, Ms. Wan was carried into a courtroom, still half-paralyzed, and was sentenced to three years in jail. She was still transferred to the Women's Prison of Hebei Province. She was later released by the prison because she was on the verge of death.

After returning home, Ms. Wan quickly recovered her health with continuous Falun Gong study, and exercise practice. After she fully recovered, she started again to tell those who were deceived by Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) propaganda about the goodness of Falun Gong. On the evening of May 22nd, 2011, she was arrested again.
