Mr. Niu Jinye, 43, is a resident of Gushan Village, Heiwang Town, Zichuan District, Zibo City, Shandong Province. On December 9th, 2009, officials of the Zichuang District 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) arrested him for refusing to renounce Falun Gong. He was sentenced to one and a half years of forced labour and is being detained in the Shandong Province Second Men's Forced Labour Camp. He began a hunger strike to protest his detention and brutal torture in July 2010. He is currently very weak.

Mr. Niu had severe nephritis before he practised Falun Gong. He had visited many hospitals but did not find a cure, and had to pay huge medical bills. His family had to borrow money and was in a desperate situation. After Mr. Niu learned Falun Gong, he regained his health after several months of practice. Many of his relatives and friends began practising Falun Gong after witnessing his recovery, and his family life became harmonious.

After the persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20th, 1999, Mr. Niu was arrested for appealing for Falun Gong in Beijing. For over ten years he had been harassed, monitored, and threatened, leading up to his arrest on December 9th, 2009.
