Falun Dafa Practitioner Dai Zhidong Brutally Tortured and in Critical Condition

Dai Zhidong is a worker at Daqing City's Electric Pump Company in Heilongjiang Province. On April 19, he was illegally detained for practicing Falun Gong. He was subjected to severe torture, including being force-fed water laced with chili pepper. In protest of the inhuman torture, he had been on a hunger strike for 64 days. The long-term torture of the forced-feeding damaged his esophagus. A week ago he was in a life-threatening situation, vomiting blood.

His family members were notified of his entry to the hospital. They saw Dai Zhidong lying on a chair with his hands cuffed, wearing a winter coat. His mouth was full of blood, his face was a waxy yellow, his nose was black and blue, and he was in critical condition. Of the four people chatting in the room at that time, none of them requested emergency treatment for him. Instead, they asked his family members take care of the medical treatment and expenses once they arrived. They claimed that after Dai Zhidong recovered, he must be sent back to the detention center to be sentenced to further imprisonment. Because his employment contract was unilaterally canceled, his work unit held back 70,000 Yuan [6,000 Yuan is the average wage of an urban worker] of his wages. With no income, his family could not afford the medical expenses, and his work unit also refused to pay for emergency treatment. He was sent back to Saertu Detention Center without having any emergency treatment. It is presently unknown whether he is still alive.
