On September 8th, 2002, she was sent to the Harbin City Women's Prison where she suffered severe torture and became emaciated. Two months after being released from prison she passed away at the age of 46, on September 24th, 2004.

1. Witnessing Brutal Persecution in the Wanjia Forced Labour Camp

While being held in the Wanjia Forced Labour Camp, Ms. Wang Fang was often confined in a small cell because she practised the Falun Gong exercises. The cells at the labour camp were damp and dirty. Practitioners were deprived of bathing for months and many of them had scabies all over their bodies, including Ms. Wang. The camp guards ordered the male inmates to push Ms. Wang Fang, Ms. Zuo Xiuyun, and Ms. Li Yanhong, to the ground to scrape off the scabies with knives and spoons. Their bodies bled all over. Then the male inmates poured cold water with rust in it all over their bodies. The practitioners were in so much pain that they screamed horribly. This torture was repeated over several days.

On May 13th, 2000, when practitioners practised the exercises, they were beaten badly by the police, then forced into undersized cells. That same day, at Zhang Bo's orders, the inmates removed food, bowls, daily necessities, bras, bed covers, chopsticks, and underclothes from the practitioners' cells. Many of the items were thrown out a window. The guards wanted results, so they ordered the inmates to lock Ms. Wang Fang, Zuo Xiuyun, and others to a radiator. The practitioners were not permitted to stand up or sit down. Wang Fang felt dizzy, nauseated, and was sweating, but she was not released until she became unconscious. Even sitting straight with legs crossed would result in reprimand and intervention from the guard or prisoners.

On June 18th, 2000, the labour camp extended many of the practitioners' terms. More than twenty practitioners were gathered and they had their hands tied behind their backs. Some of the terms were extended for one year, some for three or six months. While at the podium, guard Shi Yingbai cursed Falun Gong. When he pronounced Ms. Xu Lihua's name wrong, Ms. Xu corrected him. Guard Li Min began to beat Ms. Xu and dragged her from the second floor to the first floor. After the beating, Ms. Xu had bruises all over her face. When Ms. Yang Xiuli, Ms. Chen Yali, Ms. Gao Shuyan, Ms. Zuo Xiuyun, Ms. Wang Fang and Ms. Zhao Yaoyun stood up to stop the guards from defaming Falun Gong, they were beaten. The guards beat Ms. Gao Shuyan until she lost consciousnesses. After this incident 17 practitioners were confined to small cells.

Fifteen practitioners had been beaten by the morning of June 19th,2000. Ms. Chen Yaping, Ms. Zhao Yayun and Ms. Wang Fang were shocked in the heart with electric batons, then tied and hung with their feet up in the air. The ropes got tighter and tighter and they were pulled higher and higher above the ground. They were deprived of sleep and not allowed to use the toilet, relieving themselves in their trousers. Inmate Wu Baoyun slapped Ms. Zhu Chunrong in the face with a shoe and her nose and face bled. Inmate Li Min beat elderly practitioner Ms. Pan Xuanhua, causing her mouth to bleed and her teeth to loosen. Then she was shocked with a electric baton and hung from a bamboo pole.

Ms. Li Xiuqin, Ms. Zhang Yulan and Ms. Zhao Yayun were persecuted to death on June 20th, 2000. Four female practitioners were sent to the male ward for detention. Another eight female practitioners were on the verge of death, had muddled minds, and were incontinent.

On August 10th, 2000, the guards were determined to make practitioners who refused to give up their beliefs listen to material that slandered Falun Gong. When Ms. Pan Xuanhua and others raised objections, the guards taped their mouths shut, and locked Ms. Pan Xuanhua, Ms. Zhang Hong, Ms. Zuo Xiuyun, Ms. Wang Fang, Ms. Yang Xiuli, and another practitioner in undersized cells. Ms. Zuo and Ms. Wang were suffering from open wounds, so the Wanjia Hospital conjured up a kind of "medical treatment." The chief of staff, Ning Shaohui, had four male inmates drag Ms. Zuo and Ms. Wang out of the cells, then they cut their pimples off using scalpels without using disinfection or anaesthesia. The screaming was intense. After the torture, the abusers sent them back to the small cells.

2. Tortured by Director Shan Chengqiang in Halin City Detention Centre

Ms. Wang Fang was sent to her mother's home in Mudanjiang City after her two-year term ended, however she was later arrested again. On June 14th, 2002, Ms. Wang Fang was transferred from the Mudanjiang Detention Centre to the Hailin City Detention Centre.

Once after she talked to people about the truth behind the persecution of Falun Gong in the detention centre, she was brutally beaten and handcuffed by director Shan Chengqiang. Another time director Shan Chengqiang tortured Ms. Wang after she discovered her doing the exercises in her cell. She was taken to the yard and beaten at the same time cold water was poured all over her body. Ms. Wang Fang shouted, "Falun Gong is good!" As a result, she was put in handcuffs and ankle shackles. Shan Chengqiang whipped the bottoms of her feet with a plastic tube which made her roll on the ground in pain. She was disfigured beyond recognition. She bled so much that fellow practitioners had to peal her soiled clothing away from her body. Another time when she was handcuffed for doing the exercises, she started hunger strike to protest the mistreatment.

In May 2003, Ms. Wang and three other practitioners were handcuffed and shackled. Two of them were chained together for four days before they were released.

3. Tortured to the Verge of Death in Harbin Women's Prison

On September 8th, 2003, Ms. Wang Fang was sent to the Harbin Women's Prison. The prison guards broadcast videos defaming Falun Gong in every section of the prison in an effort to force practitioners to renounce Falun Gong. Three or four guards forced practitioners to sign the “renouncement statement” with their thumb prints.

In March 2004, Ms. Wang Fang and Ms. Chen Weijun started a hunger strike to protest the mistreatment. They were brutally forced fed. The tube was left in Ms. Wang's mouth for six days. By the time it was removed, it had mold going in it which caused Ms. Wang to have a lung infection. She had a fever and cough. Later she was diagnosed with late stage pulmonary tuberculosis. Despite her condition, in April 2004, she was handcuffed to a bed behind with her hands behind her back for an entire day. She could neither stand straight or squat. Ms. Wang's heath deteriorated dramatically and she became emaciated. She was then released.

On the morning of September 24th, 2004, two months after her release, she passed away.

The perpetrators at the Harbin Prison include: section chiefs Kang Yazhen and Cui Yang, prison guard Wu Xuesong, and inmates Yang Shuhua and Shang Xiaomei.
