Six Falun Gong Practitioners in Tangshan Taken to Forced Labour Camps

Between mid-November 2010 and early this year, members of the Tangshan 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) and officers from the police departments, domestic security divisions, and police stations arrested over 50 Falun Gong practitioners in a wide area. Six practitioners have been taken to forced labour camps.

Ms. Fu Wenhuai and Ms. Wu Suxiang in the Kaiping District Taken to Hehuakeng Forced Labour Camp

Ms. Fu Wenhuai and Ms. Wu Suxiang from Zhengzhuangzi Township in the Kaiping District, Tangshan, were taken to the Changningdao Detention Centre by officers from the Zhengzhuangzi Police Station on November 24th, 2010. The police confiscated computers, printers, Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution, and personal items. On the afternoon of December 9th, Ms. Fu was taken to the Hehuakeng Forced Labour Camp to serve a one-year term. Ms. Wu was also sentenced to one year of forced labour. She was denied admission upon failing a physical examination. She returned home by 8:00 p.m. on December 9th.

Mr. Xu Xiangzhi and his wife, Ms. Xu Cuihua, live in Dafenggu Village in the Kaiping District. At noon on November 24th, Li Jinqiao, the director of the Yuehe Township Police Station; Liu Baoyun; and another officer with the last name of Cai broke into Mr. Xu's home. The officers confiscated a computer, a printer, and Falun Gong books. They took Mr. Xu and his wife to the police station. The couple were transferred to the Changningdao Detention Centre that night. The police claimed that they would be released in 15 days, but no family visits were allowed. On December 9th, Mr. Xu was taken to the Hehuakeng Forced Labour Camp to serve a one-year term. Ms. Xu was also sentenced to one year of forced labour. She failed to pass a physical examination in Kaiping Hospital, so she was returned home by 8:00 p.m. on December 9th.

Prior to this sentencing to forced labour, Mr. Xu was held in a labour camp in 2007. He and another practitioner, Mr. Zhao Yunlong, were taken to the Tangshan No. 1 Detention Centre by officers from the crime response unit in the Kaiping Police Department on April 6th, 2007. On May 1st, Mr. Xu and Mr. Zhao were taken to the Shijiazhuang Forced Labour Camp. He was held under strict supervision and endured severe torture. He was forced to sit on a wooden plank for three months.

Ms. Xie Guoxiang, Ms. Li Yaping, and Ms. Pan Yuerong from the Fengrun District Taken to the Kaiping Forced Labour Camp

Ms. Xie Guoxiang is a villager in Qianliujiaying Village, Liujiaying Township, the Fengrun District, Tangshan. She was distributing calendars and talking to people about Falun Gong at 8:30 a.m. on November 24th. Lu Wensong, an officer from the Liujiaying Township Police Station, forcibly took her to the police station. Several police officers searched Ms. Xie's home at around 10:00 a.m. They confiscated a computer at her home used by a school age child. The officers also confiscated Falun Gong DVDs and over 2,000 yuan1 in cash. Ms. Xie was taken to the Fengrun Detention Centre.

A couple of days later, her father, who is in his 80s, and relatives went to the police station. A person wearing glasses and in plainclothes told them the director was not in. He promised to relay their inquiry to the director and told them to go home. A few days later, her relatives went to the police station again for information. Someone with the last name of Xu told them that she was detained for 15 days, and the relatives could take her home from the detention centre after that. On December 9th, Ms. Xie's family and relatives arrived at the Fengrun Detention Centre. The guards told them to wait. They waited until after 10 o'clock and were then told to go to the local police station for information. When they arrived at the Liujiaying Police Station after 11 a.m., Zheng Dachuan, a deputy director, told them that Ms. Xie was sentenced to one year of forced labour and had been taken to the Kaiping Forced Labour Camp. He told Ms. Xie's husband to sign the forced labour notification, but he refused to sign. The deputy director said it would take effect whether or not anyone signed.

Ms. Li Yaping, 36, is employed by the Fengrun Guest House. She was taken to the Linyin Road Police Station by Chen Jianfu, a member of the Fengrun District 610 Office, after telling others the facts about Falun Gong at a morning farmers' market around 10:00 a.m. on November 27th. An officer named Fu Wenguo viciously beat her, and her face swelled up badly. She was taken to the Fengrun District Detention Centre at around 10:00 p.m. that night for a 15-day detention. On December 11th, when her family went to the detention centre to take her home, they learned that she was taken to the Kaiping Forced Labour Camp in Tangshan before 10:00 a.m. that day. They went to Chen Jianfu's home and he was not home. They told his wife to tell him to stop persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. Ms. Li's relatives then went to the Linyin Road Police Station, where they were all taken into custody. The police handcuffed them and forcibly took them to the Fengrun Detention Centre for seven days of detention on the charges of “disturbing the populace.”

Ms. Pan Yuerong is employed by the No. 1 Company of No. 22 Metallurgy Group Company in the Fengrun District. Shi Lei and three other officers from the Yongji Street Police Station broke into Ms. Pan's office at around 10:00 a.m. on December 20th. The officers did not present any identification cards and simply took Ms. Pan directly to Kaiping Forced Labour Camp. The police then spread rumours that Ms. Pan was taken directly to Shijiazhuang Forced Labour Camp. It took Ms. Pan's family a lot of effort and four days to locate her in Kaiping Forced Labour Camp.

Ms. Ye Hongxia Taken to Kaiping Forced Labour Camp

Ms. Ye Hongxia is a physician working in the Jidong Prison Hospital in Hebei. November 24th, was her day off. She received a call from Liu Yanpnig, the director of the hospital's administrative office. Liu told her that Yue Yufen, the deputy director of the hospital, would like to see her in the office. When Ms. Ye arrived at Yue Yufen's office, she was interrogated by officers from the Nanbao Development District Police Department. The officers took her keys by force and broke into her home. They confiscated a computer and other personal items. That afternoon, Ms. Ye was taken to the Changningdao Detention Centre in Tangshan. The officials told Ms. Ye's family that she was detained on the grounds of accessing illegal web content. Ms. Ye was the third practitioner in the hospital to be arrested by members of the Jidong Prison 610 Office and officers of the Nanbao Development District Police Department. Earlier, Ms. Wang Cuimin and Ms. Li Xiaodi were also arrested.

Ms. Ye stayed on a hunger strike for seven days in the detention centre, and the police forced her to take an infusion. They threatened to force-feed her if she stayed on the hunger strike. Ms. Ye returned home on December 9th. On December 17th, while she was at work, Li Quancong, Yuan Guoqing, and other officers from the Nanbao Development District Police Department again showed up at the hospital. They did not present any identification cards. They took Ms. Ye with them, saying that she was needed in the police department to verify a few things. Instead, Ms. Ye was taken directly to Kaiping Forced Labour Camp. During this time, officers from the same police department also harassed her husband, Mr. Pang Yongsheng, several times.
