Ms. Xu Mingxia is a Falun Gong practitioner from Qishan County, Baoji City, Shanxi Province. She lives in Wushao Village, Fengming Township. She has followed the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance to be a better person, but the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has frequently persecuted her.

Frequently Persecuted, Grossly Abused and Mistreated

-Incarceration in Shanxi Province Women's Forced Labour Camp

Qishan County police deceived Ms. Xu Mingxia and took her and two other practitioners to the Qishan County Detention Centre in March 2010. Following ten days of detention they were sent to Shanxi Province Women's Forced Labour Camp for a year and a half stay. She was in the second team. She was forced to work from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 or 2:00 a.m. In June she was transferred to the first team to be “reformed” [forcibly renounce Falun Gong]. Guards grouped practitioners together. Practitioners, including Ms. Xu, practised the Falun Gong exercises in a group to protest the persecution. Guards sneaked in and confiscated Falun Gong lectures that practitioners had brought. To get the lectures back, practitioners sat in the hallway and refused to go back to their cells. The next day eight guards arrived and beat and kicked the practitioners. Ms. Wu Daqun, Ms. Luo Changyun, Ms. Wang Xiuwen, Ms. Zhang Jinlan, and Ms. Ding Xiaoyu were covered with bruises. Ms. Wu lost consciousness.

Those who refused to be “reformed” were not allowed to use the toilet. Ms. Xu and other practitioners went on a hunger strike to protest. Guards force-fed Ms. Xu with salt water. Several inmates used a shoe brush to force open Ms. Xu’s mouth, knocking out a tooth in the process. Ms. Xu kept vomiting following the force-feeding. Several days later her stomach was bloated. The guards sat on her stomach to press it down and tried to coerce her to give up her belief. They handcuffed her to the metal window frame for nine days. They did not let her down until she finally lost consciousness. They held her for five additional months after her term was up. She was not released until the end of the year.

-Detained in Qishan County Police Department

While Ms. Xu and two other practitioners were distributing leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong on April 29th, 2004, Fengming Police Station in Qishan County seized them and held them in Qishan County Police Department.

Ms. Xu and another practitioner went on a hunger strike. On the eighth day, the guards tied them up to force feed them. They were tortured for four days until they lost consciousness. The guards then called their families to come get them and released the two women on bail. Following their release, officials still monitored and harassed them. Ms. Xu decided to leave her home to avoid further persecution.

-Held in Qishan County Detention Centre

Ms. Xu returned home on October 8th, 2004, for the harvest. The next day Fengming Police Station agents broke into her house, arrested her, and took her to the Qishan County Detention Centre.

That same day, she went on a hunger strike.

Five days later the guards force-fed her and took her to Qishan County Chinese Medicine Hospital, where she was force-fed every other day. They used very stiff tubing, poking it up through her nose to her oesophagus, each time creating significant damage to her trachea and oesophagus. By the tenth day in the detention centre Ms. Xu had become too weak to walk. The officials ordered doctor Sun to inject her with unknown drugs. On the twelfth day she lapsed into extended unconsciousness. Officials called her family and made them sign the paperwork to take her home. The police often harassed her at home. She decided once again to leave home.

Ms. Xu returned home again in October 2005 for the fall harvest. The next night at 10:00 p.m. a policeman broke into her home by jumping over the wall. He opened up the door for the other officers. She did not even have a chance to put on her shoes before she was pushed into a police car. She was held at the Qishan County Detention Centre where she went on a hunger strike again.

Officials saw that she was very weak, so they took her to the hospital to force-feed her and give her injections again. They tied her feet and hands to a bed for a month. Qishan Court tried her and Ms. Xu appealed. Three days later Baoji City Court upheld the original decision and had her sent to Xian Women's Prison. Because there were issues with the written judgment, the prison refused to accept her. They called clerk Wang from Qishan Court to come to the centre. Zhang Qicang, detention centre head; head Zhang Qicang; and court clerk Wang brought a blank judgment and said, “As long as the prison agrees to accept her, we will write whatever they ask for on the judgment document.” They then dropped off Ms. Xu in the yard of the prison and left.

-Incarcerated in Xian Women's Prison

Inmates carried Ms. Xu inside. Because she refused to cooperate with the guards, officials put her in the Strict Discipline Team. Team head Liu Zhiping demanded that the inmates remove her clothes and put her in an inmate’s uniform. They made her sleep on a bare bed. Her feet and hands were all swollen from the cold during the extremely icy winter.

Then the guards put Ms. Xu in the seventh team, a production team. She did not cooperate. She refused to work. The guards roughly pulled her into a hallway and scraped the skin off her back.

The guards closed the door and ordered the inmates to beat the practitioners. They had the inmates to poke Ms. Xu’s hands with a sharp knife. The team political head gave the inmates handcuffs and ordered them to handcuff practitioners if they did the exercises.

-Seized by Perpetrators from the Qishan County 610 Office and taken to the Panjiawan Forest Farm Brainwashing Centre

Ms. Xu had called workers to help remodel her house on September 19th, 2010, to prepare for her son’s wedding. On her way to the county to buy supplies, 610 Office agents (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) and Fengming Police Station agents nabbed her near Qishan Middle School. They took her to Panjiawan Forest Farm Brainwashing Centre in Baoji City and detained her there for 40 days.

They hired several people to slander Falun Gong every day while Ms. Xu was in the brainwashing centre.

Great Benefits from Practising Falun Gong

Ms. Xu started practising Falun Gong in July 1998. After that her arthritis disappeared. While watching Falun Gong video lectures once, she suddenly experienced leg pain so severe that she could not sit up anymore. Later, when she participated in group exercises, the pain immediately disappeared. Guided by the principles Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, she no longer argues or competes with others. The entire family lives in happy harmony.

Once in the labour camp, team leader Zhang Xiaolin hung Ms. Xu near the entrance of the stairs for over 40 days. Ms. Xu’s hands, feet, and legs were numb, and she was in great pain. Ten days after that, every night she felt a warm current in every joint in her body, and her hands and feet were warm. She gradually recovered and did not feel cold anymore. She even gave her winter boots to other inmates and warmed the inmates’ shoes with her warm feet. At that time she only had a red sweater on, but the guard watching her had on a thick winter jacket and was still cold. In that cold winter they hung her at a door day and night. The guards did not let her down until the Chinese New Year.

In the Strict Discipline Team in autumn of 2006 Ms. Xu practised the exercises at night. The guards beat her. She went on a persecution protest hunger strike. The guards then force-fed her. After that she had diarrhoea for about a year, which made her very weak. When she climbed stairs she had to rest every two steps. The guards and inmates often had to check to see if she was still breathing.

One night, Ms. Xu suddenly realised, “I cannot end my human life like this. I need to live. I still need to rescue people.” The next morning she felt energetic. When she climbed the stairs, she felt like her body was floating.
