Dalian Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Cong Rixu was putting up posters exposing the persecution of Falun Gong in public when he was arrested by plainclothes officers from the Ganjingzi Branch Office of the Dalian Police Department. Mr. Cong was sentenced to three years in prison. His mother was traumatised by these events and was also harassed and threatened by policemen many times. As a result, her health declined and she did not get to see her son for the last time before passing away on January 8th, 2011. Learning of his grandson's sentencing, Mr. Cong's grandfather also became ill and paralysed. Mr. Cong's family wanted Mr. Cong to come home for his mother's funeral and visit his elderly grandfather, but their request was denied by the prison authorities. Mr. Cong has already served two years and is currently in District No. 4 of Nanguanling Prison in Dalian.

Ms. Zhang Xiuzhen Sent to a Brainwashing Centre

Mr. Cong's mother, Ms. Zhang Xiuzhen, started practising Falun Gong in 1997, and her illnesses disappeared along with many of her bad habits, and she became a more calm and compassionate person.

Ms. Zhang was arrested by policemen from Panjin in 2001 because she did not give up practising Falun Gong. She was sent to a detention centre and later to a brainwashing centre. Ms. Zhang was traumatised physically and mentally from being detained for three months. After that her health declined.

In January 2009, after learning of her son's arrest, Ms. Zhang went into shock. She regained consciousness after she was taken to the emergency room. Around the “National Day” in October, to prevent citizens from appealing to the government, local police went to Ms. Zhang's home many times to threaten, intimidate, and harass her. Ms. Zhang was already bedridden at the time, and she could not withstand such constant mental torture. She passed away on January 8th, 2011, at the age of 53.

An Outstanding Young Man in Prison

Mr. Cong started to practise Falun Gong in 1997, and ever since has adhered to the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. He graduated in July 2005 with a major in TV directing from The Engineering Technology College of Liaoning. While in school, he held positions in the student association, was recognised as an “outstanding” student numerous times, and earned scholarships. After graduation, he did volunteer work to support the modernisation of western China for one year, which he spent at the Science and Culture Department of Menyuan County, Qinghai Province. Mr. Cong's good performance and work ethic earned him the nationally recognised “Outstanding Volunteer” certificate. After Mr. Cong came back from western China, he was working as the principle's assistant at Wendu Training School in Dalian. Mr. Cong was a good person both at home and at work, always thought of others first, and was highly recommended by his teachers, colleagues and friends.

Ms. Cong and his wife, Ms. Tian Lu, were putting up Falun Gong flyers on January 13th, 2009, near Xiangzhou road in Dalian, when they were arrested by plainclothes officers from the Ganjingzi Branch office of the Dalian Police Department. During the arrest, the policemen beat Mr. Cong, covered his head with a black cloth, and took him to the Ganjingzi Branch office of the Dalian Police Department. Mr. Cong was interrogated, his home was ransacked without a legal warrant, and the police hit his head against the wall and kicked and hit him. Mr. Cong's nose and mouth bled, the right side of his head swelled up, and breathing became difficult due to the pain caused by internal injuries.

On June 16th, 2009, Ganjingzi Court in Dalian tried Mr. Cong. He was defended by two lawyers, which prompted the court to call for a recess. In any event, the judges sentenced Mr. Cong to three years in prison. Guards at Nanguanling Prison in Dalian have not allowed his family to visit him. Conditions in the prison are severe, and Mr. Cong is often hungry. He is now very thin with symptoms of hypotension. The prison still uses excuses to prevent Mr. Cong's family from visiting him.

His Ankle Broken from a Beating, Mr. Cong's Lawyer Sentenced to Seven Years in Prison

Mr. Wang Yonghang used to work for the Ganjun Legal Office in Liaoning. Since 2007 he had provided legal assistance many times for Falun Gong practitioners. Mr. Wang had published a letter addressed to the Supreme People’s Procuratorate and the Supreme People’s Court, along with six other articles on the website www.theepochtimes.com. In his article "A Big Past Mistake Needs to Be Corrected Swiftly to Address the Aftermath," he pointed out that, for the Supreme People's Procuratorate and the Supreme People's Court to accuse plaintiffs of "using evil religious organisations to disrupt the laws and regulations," was a fatal mistake. He appealed by writing open letters. In his “Open Letter to Hu Wen," Mr. Wang pointed out forcing "Article 300 of the Criminal Law" on Falun Gong practitioners was against the law, and he demanded the supreme legal organisations to release every imprisoned Falun Gong practitioner. Mr. Wang was terminated by his employer because of government pressure, and his licence to practise law is still being withheld by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) legal department.

On June 16th, 2009, when Mr Wang defended Mr. Cong in court, the judges were speechless and got very angry. On July 4th, Zhou Yongkang from the Political Affairs Regulation Commission secretly ordered the arrest of Mr. Wang for “publishing articles on a foreign website.” During his arrest by 20 or so policemen, he sustained a comminuted fracture of his ankle from a beating. Because he did not receive immediate medical attention, the injury became severely infected, the bones shifted, and as a result, he now walks with a limp. While Mr. Wang was kept in Dalian Detention Centre, he tried to stop Falun Gong practitioners from being beaten. To punish him, the prison physician and criminal inmates recklessly force fed him. Mr. Wang's throat bled as they inserted the tube, and he nearly suffocated several times. They handcuffed him and made him lay on the floor for as long as 48 hours.

On November 27th, the middle court of Dalian sentenced Mr. Wang to seven years in prison. On February 4th, 2010, the court opened hearings on Mr. Wang's case for the second time and upheld their original sentencing of seven years. On April 22nd, he was secretly sent to District 18 in Prison No. 1 in Liaoning. On the evening of October 11th, he was beaten in Prison No. 1 in Shenyang by several criminal inmates under the direction of guards Li Shiguang, Peng Li, Liu Chang, etc.

Mr. Wang is another lawyer in addition to Mr. Gao Zhisheng, who had the courage to fight for justice for Falun Gong and consequently received the most severe sentencing for a lawyer. In December 2009, the UN human rights report “Human Rights of Falun Gong” was released. Not only were the details of Mr. Wang's illegal arrest, detention and sentencing provided, but also the names and agencies of the CCP officials involved in the case. Currently, the Human Rights Committee of the United Nations is working on it as an individual case.

On July 4th Mr. Wang's wife, Ms. Yu Xiaoyan, was arrested and detained in the Fushun Brainwashing Centre. She was released on July 30th.

Mr. Cong's Wife Went to the US to Call for an End to the Persecution of Falun Gong

Mr. Cong and his wife, Ms. Tian Lu, had a peaceful life. In order to let the public know the truth about Falun Gong, they put up posters exposing the persecution of Falun Gong. They were arrested and their home was ransacked because of what they did. During the time that Ms. Tian was in the Dalian Detention Centre, the police interrogated her, and guards and criminal inmates forced her to wear a prison uniform. She went on a hunger strike to resist such treatment, and as a result, they slapped her face. After spending one month in the detention centre, she lost over 20 pounds. Ms. Tian was still harassed by telephone after she went home. She was followed by spies from the Domestic Security when she went to Beijing looking for a lawyer to represent her husband. The Domestic Security personnel even went to search for information about Ms. Tian at the school where she was doing graduate studies. Eventually, Ms. Tian's only choice was to go to the United State and ask for help.

To stop the persecution and rescue her husband and his lawyer, she came to the U.S. Ms. Tian has been calling for help at the international level, and she hopes to receive help from the U.S. government and its people. At many gatherings she has demanded that the CCP release her husband and Mr. Wang Yonghang unconditionally, and she has also asked the compassionate people all over the world and human rights organisations to help rescue tens of thousands of persecuted Falun Gong practitioners. Ms. Tian believes even a single telephone call, a letter, or one text can put pressure on the CCP and give hope to those who are suffering. She strongly condemned this inhumane persecution and calls for it to end immediately. At a meeting in August 2010, she handed over a proposal with over 200 signatures to U.S. Congressman Adam B. Schiff and told him her story in person. She hopes that Mr. Schiff will help rescue her husband and Mr. Wang through the U.S. government. Some of the local Chinese press had reported on this event. A reply letter from the State Department stated they have contacted the embassy in Shenyang, China, and urged them to investigate this case.

There are countless Falun Gong practitioners in China who have suffered similar circumstances, and this tragedy is only the tip of the iceberg. Practitioners in China have endured endless suffering and hardship for the past 12 years, and sustained varying degrees of physical and psychological injury. Learn the truth and quickly end any association with the Communist Party, Communist Youth League, and Young Pioneers.
