On December 28th, Mr. Yang Jianpo, a Falun Gong practitioner from the Langfang District in Hebei Province, was arrested again. His wife wrote a letter to the prison officers in Jidong Prison in the hopes that they would be able to realize that they were taking part in the persecution of good people.

At around 8:00 a.m. on December 28th, Mr. Yang was driving to work. On his way, he was distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong and ended up being arrested by police officers from the Langfang Development District. They took him to the Langfang Development District Police Sub-Bureau. Later, a team leader, Huang from the Domestic Security Team in Guangyang District of Langfang, got in touch with people from Jidong Prison in Tangshan. Without going through any legal procedures, and without notifying his family members, he had Mr. Yang transferred to Jidong Prison at 3:00 p.m. the same day. There, Mr. Yang was bound to an iron chair by police officers. He was handcuffed and his feet were shackled. At some point, his face was scratched. Before they took him to Jidong Prison, he appeared to be weak.

Mr. Yang was arrested before—in 2006—and sentenced to six years in prison. He resisted the persecution and went on a hunger strike for two years and eight months. On September 29th, 2008, he was released and taken home by people from Jidong Prison. When he came back, he was extremely emaciated and weak, and his internal organs were barely functioning. As a result, he could not take care of himself. He had yet to recover and begin leading a normal life.

My Yang's wife, Ms. Nie Chunling, has been arrested by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) 18 times. She recently wrote a letter to the officers at Jidong Prison, asking them to distinguish between good from evil, and to not follow the CCP to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. The following is Ms. Nie's letter, written on January 3rd, 2011:

To all the officers at Jidong Prison:

Another traditional Chinese New Year is coming up, with people planning to return home and celebrate. At my home, it is just the opposite. As at 8:00 a.m. on December 28th, 2010, when my husband Yang Jianpo was on his way to work at Langfang Development District, he was tracked down and arrested. At 3:00 p.m. the same day, he was arrested by Jidong Prison officials, who did not go through any legal procedures or notify his family. After he was detained, he was been bound to an iron chair, had handcuffs and foot shackles put on, and his face appeared to be scratched.

On February 12th, 2006, my husband was sentenced to six years in prison. Unable to use legal channels to protect his freedom of belief and oppose the CCP's illegal behaviour, he went on a hunger strike that lasted two years and eight months. As a result, he became emaciated, his organs began to shut down, and he couldn't take care of himself. When he was on the brink of death, on September 29tth, 2008, he was taken home. When he came home, he was in critical condition. He was taken very good care of and managed to continue doing the Falun Gong exercises with a strong will, and he was able to recover. However, his health was nowhere near what it was before he was persecuted. The CCP persecuted my husband to near death, and Falun Gong gave him a new life.

Now you have thrown him into prison again. What crime did he commit? You've been persecuting him again and again! Do you know how much of a shock it was to Yang's 80-year-old mother? When you sit with your family members around a table eating dinner together, when you sit in front of the TV to watch programs, when you chat with your friends, have you ever thought about families of those practitioners who are in detention? During the past more than ten years, which of their families has not suffered?!

Take my family as an example. For the past more than ten years, our lives have been anything but normal. My husband was arrested, detained, thrown into forced labour camps, and sentenced many times for no reason. I have been arrested 18 times. Many times I have been carried out on a stretcher in critical condition, or someone had to carry me out of a forced labour camp. I was tortured until I was very weak. I couldn't work, and we didn't have any income to support the family. Four of us in our family were supported by our parents and siblings, through their savings, but it meant having to be very thrifty. At that time, each of our two children was supported by either my parents or in-laws.

Since 1999, the total value of the cash, goods, and vehicle confiscated has amounted to more than 80,000 yuan1. In addition, on February 20th, 2004, when I was working in our fast-food business, people from the Guangyang District Police Sub-Bureau arrested my husband and took him away for no reason. They also confiscated goods that we used in running our business, which amounted to more than 30,000 yuan. After that, they threw my husband into a forced labour camp, without going through any legal procedures, and we were forced to close our business, which has resulted in a loss of more than 10,000 yuan.

Officers, maybe you are wondering why we practitioners just don't give in in the face of such cruel persecution? Why we are holding so firmly to our belief in Truth-Compassion-Forbearance? I would like to tell you how Falun Gong transformed our family, in the hope that you'll be able to find the answer.

My husband, Mr. Yang, always fought with people before he practised Falun Gong. He used to be considered a rogue in the area of Langfang. Nobody dared to fight with him. He was sent to a detention centre three times for fighting. At that time, I was very ill, and I also had to take care of two young children. He was seldom at home, we couldn't get along with each other, and were about to divorce. My illness and the mental pressure made me lose all hope, and at times I wanted to kill myself just to end it all. At that time, by chance, my husband became a Falun Gong practitioner and came to understand the meaning of life. After that, he changed completely, eliminating all his bad behaviour. My husband changed into a good person who is benevolent, doesn't fight back when hit or punched, and also pays his taxes on time. Our family became harmonious as well. The story of my husband's great transformation was widely known in Langfang. Seeing my husband's amazing changes, I felt the power of Falun Gong, and I began to practise as well. Falun Gong quickly displayed its miraculous effect on me when my illness healed. We were so happy as a family.

Since 1992, when Falun Gong began to spread around the world, it has taught people to follow Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and to be good. It has purified people's hearts and has had great effect in healing and keeping people fit. Through word of mouth, within seven years, it had spread all over China. Tens of millions of people were practising, including Communist Party members, military personnel, intellectuals, doctors, teachers, factory workers, farmers—there were practitioners in every fields. Every genuine practitioner benefited from improvements in his or her heath and morality. A practitioner who was a government official stopped being corrupt, a practitioner who was a merchant stopped taking advantage of people, practitioner farmers took the initiative in handing in crops and giving up their land for the building of roads and gave up water for others to be able to irrigate their lands, and people who were once bad became good (like my husband). Back then, both Director of the State Physical Education Commission Wu Shaozu and Qiao Shi, the person in charge of the People's Congress, carried out an investigation of Falun Gong, and they came to this conclusion: “Falun Gong only benefits the nation and its people.”

However, the CCP launched the persecution of Falun Gong. Since July 20th, 1999, more than 10,000 practitioners have been thrown into forced labour camps without trial. Among them have been pregnant women, the elderly, and young children. Many were sentenced to prison, with terms of up to18 years. Hundreds of thousands of people have been detained and tortured. More than a thousand practitioners were detained in mental hospitals, tortured, and injected with drugs that destroy the central nervous system. As of November 2010, 3,400 people are confirmed to have died as a result of the persecution. An unknown number of people are missing. The degree of this catastrophe is mind boggling.

However, good will be rewarded with good, while bad deeds will meet with retribution. More than 30 of the top people responsible for persecuting Falun Gong, including Luo Gan and Jiang Zemin, [former leader of China and instigator of the persecution], have been charged in lawsuits worldwide with the crimes of genocide, torture, and crimes against humanity. Whatever you do today will become evidence against you tomorrow.

To every officer, what I have said above is truly for your benefit, from the bottom of my heart! If to this day, you are still not clear about the truth, and still continue to persecute these kind practitioners, you won't have a future! I'm truly worried about you! I hope that in the new year, you will hurry up to learn the truth and treat Falun Gong practitioners kindly, so as to allow yourselves a better future!

Mr. Yang's wife, Nie Chunling
