Mr. Fu Honglie Dies under the Pressure of Long-term Persecution

Mr. Fu Honglie was a Falun Gong practitioner from Guanling County, Guizhou Province. He had been sentenced to forced labour for three years and was beaten until he lost hearing in one ear. After years of harassment and abuse, he died on November 13th.

Mr. Fu Honglie, 68, began to practise Falun Gong in Wuhan City, Hubei Province before the persecution started in 1999. He had participated in the large-scale Falun Gong group practice in Wuhan. After the persecution started, at the beginning of 2000 Mr. Fu went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. He was arrested and detained in the Guanling County Detention Centre. Thirty-eight days later, he was sentenced to three years of forced labour. He was detained in the Zhongba Forced Labour Camp. During his detention, he was beaten. As a result, Mr. Fu lost the ability to hear in one of his ears.

After he was released from the labour camp, officers from the Yongning Town Police Station often went to Mr. Fu's home to harass him. His home was ransacked many times. On July 16th, 2006, Wang Jianjun, an officer from the Yongning Town Police Station, arrested Mr. Fu and detained him at a brainwashing centre in the Maomaodong Reservoir area in Anshun City, Guizhou Province. On April 16th, 2007, Zhang Sheng, a section chief of the Guanling County Police Department, and three other police officers went to Mr. Fu's home and ransacked it. They confiscated his Falun Gong books and materials. In 2008, he was sent to the brainwashing centre in Anshun City again.

Due to long-term harassment and threats from the police, Mr. Fu lived under great mental pressure and was not able to lead a normal life. He passed away on November 13th.
