In early July, 2008, Ms. Chi Fengchun, a Falun Gong practitioner, informed police officers about the true nature of Falun Gong after they broke into her house. She was arrested, beaten, and taken to Jinan No. 1 Women's Forced Labour Camp to serve a two-year sentence.

Camp officials torture practitioners by not allowing them to eat, sleep, or go to the toilet. They force them to stand up for 24 hours at a time and order them to write a guarantee statement to renounce practising Falun Gong within nine days.

After nine days, Ms. Chi was taken to a room without monitors. Guards took turns beating her, pulling her hair, and punching her in the face until she couldn't see because her eyes were swollen shut. They kicked her till her legs turned black. For two months she was not allowed to sleep or wash. She bumped into walls whenever she had to walk anywhere and was constantly falling over. The only food she was given was a small piece of steamed bun and a small amount of water for each meal. If she spilled any, she had nothing to eat or drink.

Because she was not allowed to use the toilet, her face turned black, and she had a tormented expression. She had to soil her trousers. The punishment lasted for five months. The smell made everyone lose their appetite. Even though it was winter, the guards opened all the windows. Her trousers and shoes froze, and her toes festered with the cold. Director Zhang Hong told her their goal was to make her want to die. Prisoner Miao Huiwen kicked her swollen toes to make them worse. In the summer she was put in the smallest and hottest room, full of mosquitoes.

For the next six months, Ms. Chi was held in that room. She came close to dying, suffering from hypertension, coronary disease, diabetes, and her festered toes. Finally the director sent her to the Jinan Police Hospital. The doctor called the director to account for torturing her so terribly. Her weight had dropped from 70 to 45 kilograms.

Even after all the prolonged and agonised suffering, Ms. Chi refused to give up her belief, so she had to do forced labour. Her task was to sew the outgoing toys by hand. Every day she had to work for 18 hours. If she didn’t finish her quota in that time, she had to keep working until she did. Everyone who worked in her team became so exhausted that they would fall asleep as they walked or went to the toilet.

Directors who participated in the persecution were: Zhang Hong, Han Jianhua, Dai Xiufeng, Li Lijuan and Shen Hongguang.

Prisoners who participated in the persecution were: Miao Huiwen, Wang Xiuling, Guo Ya, Lan Lamei, Guo Lingyan, Song Xiuqing, Li Xiaona, Li Mei, and Wu Yuxin.
