Mr. Li Wolong was released from Jinshi Prison on July 4th, 2010, after being detained there for three years. On August 26th, 52 days after his release, he was arrested again for exposing the crimes committed against him to the international community. The Procurator of Pingjiang County held a trial on November 30th to try to send him back to prison.

Mr. Li has been repeatedly arrested and detained by officers from the Public Security Bureau of Pingjiang County and the police station.

In May 2001, Mr. Li was arrested when he was seen talking to people about Falun Gong. He was held in a detention centre for 30 days and had 4,000 yuan1 extorted from him by the police. His wife collapsed and was taken to a hospital for emergency treatment when he was arrested. He was suspended from work for two months by the Board of Education, and they withheld his salary, which totaled 6,000 yuan for that period of time. His house was ransacked and he was repeatedly threatened. Mr. Li was arrested again by Dai Wenming and Tang Huhai, officials from Yuping Township, when he was seen distributing leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong on July 4th, 2007. He was held in Pingjiang Detention Centre, and was repeatedly beaten by inmates. He was later sentenced to three years in Jinshi Prison.

Mr. Li refused to do any forced labour while he was detained in prison, as he believed he had committed no crime by following the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. He was handcuffed and hung from the railings in the stairwell. The handcuffs cut into his flesh, causing him extreme pain.

From May 2009 to June 2010, Mr. Li was tortured in many ways. He was slapped in the face, kicked, shocked with electric batons, force-fed human excrement, and had cold water thrown over him during the winter. He was punched and beaten for not wearing the prison uniform or following orders. He was also punished for practising the Falun Gong exercises. Inmates once punched him continually for a long period of time to cause internal injuries. His head bled profusely, and he spat up blood. When Mr. Li reported the incident to the prison ward, he was told, “The inmates are doing a good job!”

There was no one to take care of his wife while Mr. Li was detained, as she suffered from schizophrenia, and had a brain tumour and cirrhosis of the liver. She was hospitalized after attempting suicide several times. When Mr. Li was released on July 4th, 2010, he was emaciated and extremely weak, and his hair had turned grey. Mr. Li's wife died on August 1st.
