Minhang Court officials sentenced 70-year-old Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Shi Jinhua to four years in prison on October 25th, 2010. The Minhang District Detention Centre authorities refused to allow her lawyer or her family to visit her.

Shanghai police arrested farmer Ms. Shi Jinhua on June 4th, 2010, because she mailed several letters that explained the facts about Falun Gong. Ms. Shi had overworked herself in raising her three sons and thus developed many illnesses; she had to take medication every day. After she started practising Falun Gong at the end of 1998, all of her illnesses disappeared and she regained her health.

However, over the past eleven years since the Chinese Communist regime's persecution of Falun Gong began, Ms. Shi has been detained more than 14 times, and was even subjected to violent beatings and torture. The police ransacked her home numerous times, seized her personal belongings and extorted money from her.

Ms. Shi's sons and relatives, a group of eight people, once again made the trip from their hometown in Hunan Province to the detention centre to try to visit her. Her family requested that they be able to bail her out but the detention centre officials refused.

Ms. Shi's son will be married at the end of November, and he requested that his mother be let out for one day, to be present at his wedding. The centre's officials refused.
