Ms. Hu Yunhuai was arrested on May 7th, 2010, and put on trial by the Xichang City Court in September. The verdict has not been disclosed, but she is being held at the Tuohuang Detention Centre in Xichang.

Ms. Hu's dentures were confiscated while in detention. In June, she felt that something was stuck in her throat and requested a medical check-up, but it was denied. She lost weight rapidly and now weighs only around 35 kg. She could only take in liquid food provided by her daughter and thus became extremely weak. Her family members, who were very worried about her, went to the city police bureau and the city 610 Office to report on her situation. Her family requested that she be given a medical check-up and receive treatment, but their requests were also denied.

Ms. Hu was denied medical treatment for four months. Only when she was already in critical condition, on October 15th, did the detention centre taker her to the city's No. 2 Hospital for an examination. The doctor prescribed that she be hospitalised, but management from the detention centre refused to grant the hospital stay. Instead, Ms. Hu was taken to the Ningyuan Clinic, where she was given infusions. In the meantime, the detention centre told Ms. Hu's family that she was in good health.

On October 18th, after demands from her family that she see a doctor, the detention centre allowed Ms. Hu to have a check-up at Zhouyi Hospital, but demanded that she pay for it. During the examination Ms. Hu appeared to be extremely weak and slid into a coma. She had to be revived through emergency treatment. A guard with the surname of Luo was present at all times.

Ms. Hu was diagnosed with late-stage oesophagus cancer, and the doctor requested that she be hospitalised. Ms. Hu had to pay all the medical expenses.

When Ms. He was taken to the detention centre on May 7th, she was in good health. Because the detention centre had refused her requests for doctor visits for a prolonged period of time, the cancer could not be treated and subsequently advanced to the point that Ms. Hu is now on the verge of death.
