On October 12th at approximately 5 p.m., a group of policemen from Rongcheng District Public Security Subdivision, Ronghua Police Station, raided a tea shop at Rongcheng District, Jieyang, Guangdong Province, owned by Ms. Lin Huijun. The officers claimed that they received orders from their section head to arrest the owner and close down the shop. They took thousands of yuan1 from Ms. Lin's business and also arrested Ms. Wu, who was at the shop.

Ms. Lin, 48, suddenly lost her vision 20 years ago, when her son was not even one year old. Her husband took her to see numerous well-known ophthalmologists and they spent a lot of money searching for a medical solution, but the doctors all said that they could not help her. Facing such an ordeal, she became more and more frustrated, and her temper got worse and worse.

Falun Gong was very popular in Jieyang in 1998. Ms. Lin received a copy of Zhuan Falun, the main Falun Gong text, and she asked her family to read it to her. Even before she finished the book, she realised that this is a precious book and she decided to practise Falun Gong.

Shortly after she began practising, Ms. Lin and her family witnessed the miracle of Falun Gong: her vision, which had been lost for close to 10 years, improved! She was able to see light! She gradually regained enough vision to see the road and be able to ride her bicycle. She was again able to do household chores and was able to open her own business. She was so delighted, her bad temper was gone, and her family became harmonious.

Since July 1999, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has been persecuting those that practise Falun Gong. Ms. Lin was harassed many times by the CCP authorities. They threatened her and she was arrested, and her home was raided.

Because Ms. Lin treated people kindly and fairly, her business became very successful. Customers liked to chat and purchase her products. Shockingly, that became the excuse for the CCP to arrest and persecute her. After her arrest, her husband questioned the director of Ronghua Police Station, asking: "My wife did not commit any crime, why do you arrest her?" The director replied: "It was an order from the city level 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong). They said that there were too many people who went to her shop, so it must be a contact point for Falun Gong. We just obey the order, that's all."
