Ms. Liu Hefang Confined and Persecuted in Hefei Mental Hospital

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liu Hefang was reported in Xiaoyaojin Park and then arrested by policemen sent by the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) in Hefei. She is now being detained in Hefei Mental Hospital.

The following is Ms. Liu's first-person account of her ordeal:

At around 7:00 a.m. on the morning of October 8th, 2007, I was on my way to visit a friend. As soon as I stepped out of our gated community, strangers arrested me. I later learned that they had waited for me since 5:00 a.m. One of them, named Liu, was director of Public Affairs on Xianqiao Street on the Luyang District; another was named Lin, director of Public Affairs on Xinglin Street in the Luyang District. Several others were also from the Xianqiao Street office in the Luyang District. They pushed me into a black car and drove to a brainwashing centre located in Xinyu Hotel at Suixi Road, Hefei.

At the brainwashing centre, they played DVDs discrediting Falun Gong every day and tried to force me to write the three statements, a declaration to renounce my faith. I refused.

After 42 days, I was sent to a forced labour camp for a year. Policeman Wang Lu from the 610 Office in the city, along with another policeman, drove me to Anhui Province Women's Forced Labour Camp. I was detained in the third team. When guards learned that I refused to renounce my belief, they ordered me to recite the prison rules. I refused, and as a result they did not allow me to sleep until after midnight.

After a week, guards forced me to do slave labour in the prison workshop more than ten hours each day. When I refused, guard Liu Na deducted my credit. When I didn't attend morning exercises, he deducted my credit again.

I would not co-operate with them and shouted, "Falun Gong is good! Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good!" in their workshop. Criminal inmates and guards dragged me into a storage room, stuffed my mouth and taped it shut, and did not allow toilet breaks.

I went on a hunger strike. Chen Xiaoling, deputy team leader of the third team, then ordered a group of criminal inmates to tie my hands and feet and force-feed me. They pried out one of my incisor teeth. They would not allow me to shower at night and only allowed me to sleep after 1:00 a.m. I was not allowed to sit on my bed, only on a small wooden bench. This continued for more than ten months. I was not allowed to talk to anyone else during the day. If I spoke to anyone, those in charge would deduct credit points from that person.

Zhang Donglan, leader of the Third Team, along with deputy team leader Zhang Wensheng and Chen Xiaoling, assigned criminal inmates to persecute me. The more severely they tortured me, the more credit points they earned. If I didn't ask permission to use the toilet or take a shower, they would not allow me to go. When there was no one in the toilet, they then allowed me to go. Only when there was no one in the washroom was I allowed in.
