Brutal Torture at Masanjia Forced Labour Camp

Masanjia Forced Labour Camp is one of the most notorious of all of China's labour camps. Falun Gong practitioners are brutally tortured, forced to perform hard labour and brainwashed routinely at the camp.

1. Ms. Li Shumei Arrested and Tortured

On April 27th, 2009, Sun Xiuqian, police chief at the Zhuanghe City's Xingda Police Station, arrested Ms. Li Shumei and took her to the Yaojia Detention Centre at Dalian City. On December 24th, 2009, they transferred her to Masanjia Forced Labour Camp, where she was tortured and brainwashed for more than twenty days. They demanded that she renounce Falun Gong, but didn't succeed. Then, they handed her over to a "breaking the steadfast ones" team, which consisted of ten vicious guards, three men and seven women. Ms. Li Shumei was forced to squat for over ten days. They pulled on her limbs as a form of torture four times, once doing so for two hours. Then they forced her to stand and bend repeatedly, despite her blood pressure being elevated to dangerous levels. They also slapped her face viciously, with one guard saying that they would love to see her blood vessels explode.

The guards handcuffed and then hung her up in the warehouse for four days. They covered her head with a cardboard box so she couldn't see anything. They demanded that she step on Teacher Li Hongzhi's, the founder of Falun Gong, photo, and as she refused, they picked her up and threw her down repeatedly, giving her a concussion. When the concussion caused her to vomit, they forced her to do it on Teacher's portrait or be forced to swallow the vomit back. They made her listen to recorded defamatory slander about Falun Gong. At one time, when Ms. Li showered longer than the allotted time, guard Ning Xiaochuan poured icy cold water over her. This kind of abuse went on for more than two months. Ms. Li has not been released and has to perform forced labour.

2. Ms. Fengzhen Arrested and Sentenced to Forced Labour

Ms. Ni Fengzhen, 41, a practitioner from Jianping County, Chaoyang City, was arrested on December 29th, 2009 and imprisoned at the Jianping County Detention Centre. On February 10th, 2010 she was transferred to Masanjia Forced Labour Camp to serve a one year term. They didn't care that she has a 13-year-old son with cerebral palsy at home, who needs her care.

In an attempt to have Ms. Ni Fengzhen renounce Falun Gong, she was brainwashed for three months and tortured brutally. They swore at her, beat her brutally, made her squat and stand for long periods of time, kicked her in the leg, and struck her in the face with a rubber ruler for three days. Guards torturing her include Zhang Lei and Zhou Xiaoguang. Ms. Ni Fengzhen is being forced to do hard labour and still suffers from physical and mental torture.

3. Ms. Bao Qingying Tortured

Ms. Bao Qingying, 62, a practitioner from Benxi City, Liaoning Province, was arrested in December 2009. She was taken to a police station by seven police officers. They tortured her by grabbing her hair, ramming her head against a metal chest, and handcuffing her and hanging her up for half a day. She also had to squat for two and a half days, and to remain standing for extended periods of time for nine days. Once, five guards and a male inmate pushed her to the ground and stomped on her head.

4. Mr. Wan Xiaohui Taken to Masanjia Forced Labour Camp

Mr. Wan Xiaohui, 55, a practitioner from Dalian City, was arrested and taken to the Masanjia Forced Labour Camp by police officers from the Dalian Fumin Police Station. In May 2010, the "breaking the steadfast ones" team tortured him in order to have him renounce Falun Gong. They used the body-stretching torture method. Because he called out, "Falun Gong is good", guard Zhang Lei put a dirty cleaning cloth in his mouth to stop him from speaking. He suffered from heart palpitations as a result of the torture.

5. Ms. Li Chunhong Tortured

Ms. Li Chunhong, 37, a practitioner from Tieling City, Liaoning Province, was tortured. They slapped her in the face more than twenty times for refusing to write slanderous words concerning Falun Gong. She had to squat for 30 minutes and was beaten brutally several times. Zhang Jun, Zhang Lei and Zhang Xiurong tortured her.

6. Ms. Wen Jiuling Taken to Masanjia Forced Labour Camp

Ms. Wen Jiuling, 37, a practitioner from Changtu City, Liaoning Province, was forced to work in the Masanjia Women's Packaging Factory. She was abused by Pan Jin and Pu Yu, who had renounced Falun Gong. They demanded that Captain Wang Guangyun continue to torture her.

7. Ms. Li Chunhua Handcuffed

Ms. Li Chunhua, 60, a practitioner from Benxi City, was handcuffed and hung up in a warehouse for an entire day by guard Zhang Lei because she refused to recite the prison rules.

8. Ms. Wang Lihua Arrested and Taken to Masanjia Forced Labour Camp

On January 3rd, 2010, Han Qiang from the Cuidong Police Station arrested Ms. Wang Lihua, 59, a Benxi City practitioner. She was detained in the local detention centre and transferred to Masanjia Forced Labour Camp on January 25th.

Guards Zhang Huan harassed her from February 24th to February 28th, demanding that she write the three statements to renounce practising Falun Gong. Ms. Wang steadfastly refused.

On March 1st, they began to torture Ms. Wang to try to force her to write the three statements. The torture methods included stretching her limbs with a machine for more than two hours, until she had muscle cramps. On March 5th, they had prepared the three statements. Five guards held Ms. Wang's hand, trying to put her fingerprint on the paper, but they still failed. After that, seven or eight guards pushed her to the ground and kicked her in the face.
