Four Falun Gong Practitioners Sentenced by Shouguang City Court in Shandong Province

During the period from late December 2009, to the end of January 2010, police officers from Sunji Township, Shouguang City, Shandong Province arrested several local Falun Gong practitioners. They were physically tortured and had money extorted from them. Four of the practitioners, including Zhang Faxiang, Zhang Fengmei, Zheng Faxin, and Zhang Jinfeng, were recently sentenced to prison or forced labour camp.

On the afternoon of December 21st, 2009, three officers from the Sunji Police Station arrived at Ms. Zhang Faxiang's work location and arrested her. She was immediately taken to a local police ammunition depot and physically tortured. She was shackled to a steel chair and deprived of sleep for five consecutive days and nights. Ms. Zhang was then sentenced to one year in Wangcun Forced Labour Camp. During the Chinese New Year period in 2010, she was transferred to Shouguang Detention Centre. The police claimed that Ms. Zhang participated in producing leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong several years ago and would be punished more severely. A few days ago, the Shouguang Court sentenced her to four years in prison.

Ms. Zhang Fengmei, from Huying Village, was arrested on January 20th, 2010, by police from Sunji Township. On the morning of January 23rd, her daughter was also arrested. Policemen forced the daughter to tell them what kinds of leaflets exposing the persecution of Falun Gong her mother had made. She was then released after being extorted for 5,000 yuan1. However, Zhang Fengmei was sentenced to four years in prison.

On January 23rd, 2010, Falun Gong practitioner Zheng Faxin from Zhengjiangzhuang Village was arrested by police officers from Sunji Township. Zheng Faxin was then sentenced to three years in prison.

Ms. Zhang Jinfeng, from Matuanzhang Village, was arrested in December 2009, at her home and sent to Shouguang Detention Centre. The police tried to extort 20 thousand yuan from her family but were refused. Ms. Zhang was recently sentenced to one year in Wangcun Forced Labour Camp.
