Ms. Wu Bilin, a practitioner from the Jiangan District of Wuhan City, is currently on a hunger strike to protest her detention in Chenjiaji Brainwashing Centre. The 61-year-old was arrested outside her home by the Wuhan City Police Department on June 19th, 2010. That night, her home was ransacked by the police.

According to an insider, she was arrested for accompanying Ms. Song Wenxiu, mother of practitioner Ms. Li Shihong, to Jiangan District Court. They went there to lodge a letter of complaint regarding the unjust trial of Ms. Li Shihong.

On the morning of April 30th, four older women--Song Wenxiu, Wu Bilin, Sun Jingping, and Huang Jing--approached Tribunal Court judges Wu Shanrong and Ye Li to seek redress for the injustice suffered by Ms. Song's daughter Li Shihong. Ms. Song brought along a complaint letter. Her daughter was tried on April 7th. Ms. Li's arrest and the charges brought against her by the police department contained many illegalities. The Jiangan District police arrested Ms. Song and took the key to her front door from her pocket. Without a search warrant, they broke into private property, ransacked her home, and arrested her daughter. Female officers Yu Jiming and Wan Baozhu from Danshuichi Police Station stole 1200 yuan1 in cash from Ms. Song's house while conducting the search.

Judge Wu Shanrong came out to meet the women and told them to wait in the room. She subsequently contacted the local 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) and ordered them to arrest the four practitioners. They were taken to Chenjiaji Brainwashing Centre. Ms. Song Wenxiu, Ms. Wu Bilin, and Ms. Huang Jing then stepped forward to protest the persecution. After being detained for over three weeks, Ms. Song Wenxiu and Ms. Huang Jing became seriously ill. The authorities released them, fearing that they would be held responsible for their deaths.

Chenjiaji Brainwashing Centre is situated in an abandoned two-story building in a smelting factory. It's next to the river and there are no houses nearby. The surrounding walls are over two meters high with iron fencing on top around one meter high. According to practitioners who have been detained there, the living quarters are on the second floor. The first floor is where practitioners are tortured. The rooms downstairs are dark and damp all year round. Practitioners confined in the rooms are forced to stand for several days and nights, and are deprived of sleep. They are beaten, abused and threatened. Ms. Wu Bilin was detained in the same brainwashing center in August 2007. She was force-fed with vinegar and chilli water several times per day under orders from Hu Shaobin. She was beaten even though she was already very weak from the persecution.

Ms. Wu Bilin and Ms. Sun Jingping are still being detained at Chenjiaji Brainwashing Centre.
