Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Man Shouzheng, 63, from Weifang, Shandong Province, was sentenced to a one-year term in a forced labour camp for practising Falun Gong. When he was released in March 2010, he could no longer talk, as he had developed late-stage tongue cancer. He previously weighed 176 pounds. After being severely persecuted in the labour camp he now weighs less than 110 pounds.

In April 2009, Mr. Man was arrested by Mao Yulong, a police officer from the Zhucheng City Police Department's National Security Team. He was detained in a Zhucheng brainwashing centre and he was brutally beaten by Mao Yulong. He was forced to lie on his back, while another person stomped on his body and his head. They also slammed his head against the wall. He was later sent to the Wangcun Forced Labour Camp to serve a one-year sentence.

In January 2010 his tongue became swollen, and it was so painful that he could not eat anything. When he was released, he could no longer talk.

Mr. Man's family took him directly to a hospital where he was diagnosed with an advanced stage of tongue cancer, treatment of which would cost over ten thousand yuan. Up to this point he still is unable to talk. Saliva smelling quite bad drips from his mouth and he suffers severe pain and cannot eat.
