According to an investigation, before and after the Olympics in Beijing, the Chinese Communist Party transferred more than 100 Falun Gong practitioners and secretly took them in five groups to the notorious Masanjia Forced Labour Camp in Shenyang City. In order to try to force them to give up their faith in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, the guards and inmates in Masanjia use torture, forced hard labour, and other means. This report exposes one of the largest-scale rounds of persecution.

Secretly Transferred

Around 3 a.m. on July 14th, 2008, more than 50 practitioners detained in Beijing Tiaoqianchu 9th and 10th Brigade and Beijing Women's Forced Labour Camp were gathered together in an open area surrounded by cars and armed policemen wearing helmets and carrying batons. A police officer said, "We have orders to take you elsewhere. You are not to speak, raise your head, or look out the car windows. Violators will face severe penalties."

The doors and windows of six vehicles were covered. Every two practitioners were handcuffed together. The mouths of some practitioners were sealed with tape. After eight hours of driving on the highway, the cars stopped. (Note: Around one o'clock the same day, another group of about 50 practitioners were taken from the 9th Brigade to other areas. The police officers were in white uniforms wearing face masks.)

From early 2008 to the end of 2009, five groups of practitioners were sent from Beijing to Masanjia: about 30 on April 28th, 2008, 10 on June 15th, 2008, 50 on July 14th, 2008, over 20 in March 2009, and over 10 in November 2009.

Pressured to "Reform"

Upon arriving at the fourth floor of the East Gang building in the forced labour camp, the practitioners saw tables and people wearing helmets and brightly coloured clothes. They required all practitioners to squat on the floor and write the three statements to renounce practising Falun Gong. A female practitioner, Lang Dongyue, shouted, "Falun Gong is good!" She was immediately removed. Next day she returned to the prison seriously injured and was not able to walk.

In the afternoon, practitioners noticed that the staff members' name tags indicated that they were working for Masanjia Forced Labour Camp. This was how they found out where they were.

Within a week, six to seven practitioners were tortured like Ms. Lang was. Every night one could hear screams of pain. The use of the "hanging bed" torture caused serious injury to the hands, feet, and back, and afterward the victims are unable to walk.

Starting from the second day, every morning more than ten practitioners would be required to attend brainwashing sessions in the West Gang building.

Persecution by the Strict Management Team

By July 28, 2008, more than 50 practitioners who refused to give up their practice were sent over to the East Gang building, where a "Strict Management Team" with more than 20 male and female police officers from the 610 Office (an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) was in place. They tortured these practitioners day and night.

A. Partial list of Beijing practitioners tortured by the Strict Management Team:

Ms. Lang Dongyue was severely beaten and tortured with the "hanging bed" on July 14th, 2008, when she shouted, "Falun Gong is good!" During the latter part of July, she announced solemnly that she was forced involuntarily by police to put her fingerprint on the three statements and hence it was not valid. Later, she was beaten again by police officers Liu Yong and Ms.Li and sustained additional injury.

Ms. Zhang Lianying was brainwashed and tortured with the "hanging bed" torture. She was not able to walk normally for a month. She was beaten many times with electric batons on the inner parts of her thighs and on her abdomen. Her prison term was extended by four months because she said, "Falun Gong is good." On July 7th, 2009 Ms. Zhang was transferred to the Special Management Team. She returned to the Strict Management Team in the East Gang building on October, 2009. Ms. Zhang was chained to the frame of her bed because she refused to wear prison clothes. She gained some freedom by April 2010.

Ms. Zhang Yinying was brainwashed, tortured with the "hanging bed," and beaten with electric batons many times. The severe beating caused dizziness and vomiting. She vomited up black clumps of dried blood.

B. Twenty-one practitioners from Liaoning Province were held in the Strict Management Team. They refused to recite the "30 lines" of prison regulations and be brainwashed. All of them were tortured with the "stretching bed" and brutally beaten with electric batons.

C. Those who participated in persecution

During the 2008 Olympics, male police officers in the Strict Management Team who participated in the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners were: Liu Yong and policemen surnamed Li, Yan, Fan, Chen, another Chen, and Li.

Female police officers in the Strict Management Team who participated in the persecution included: Zhang Jun, Zhang Zhuohui, Dong Bin, and an officer surnamed Pan. Altogether there were about 10 people.

In October 2009, other police officers who participated in the Strict Management Team included: Zhang Huan, Zhang Lei, Li Lili, Zou Xiaoguang, Zhang Xiurong, and several others.

In January 2010 all the practitioners newly arrived in the forced labour camp were tortured and sustained injuries.

Perpetrators and their police ID numbers:

Pan (female): 2178142; Zhang Huan: 2108455; Zhang Lei: 2108456; Zhang Jun: 2108050; Zhang Zhuohui: 2108469

Others who participated in the persecution:

Yuan Shuzhen, a former practitioner who gave up her practice after being brainwashed. Her entire family moved to Shenyang and has become part of Masanjia's unofficial staff. Yuan's job is to force other practitioners to give up their practice.

Zhao Yonghua is a collaborator like Yuan Shuzhen. She uses coercion, enticement, extension of prison terms, and physical abuse to persecute practitioners.
