Shortly after the persecution of Falun Gong began, on July 20th, 1999, Ms. Sun Lifeng was sentenced to three years of forced labour. On the way to the labour camp, she somehow managed to escape and went to Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province, to avoid being arrested again. The police managed to track her down, and she was arrested on May 27th, 2005, when police officers followed her to a fellow practitioner's home. When the officers searched Ms. Sun, they found some Falun Gong DVDs her handbag. Ms. Sun was held in the Oroqen Autonomous Prefecture Detention Centre, located in Alihe Town.

In April 2008, Ms. Sun was arrested again and sentenced to 18 months of forced labour for distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling some students the facts about Falun Gong. She was detained in the Qianjin Forced Labour Camp, Harbin City. Ms. Sun should have been released on October 24th, 2009, but because she refused to sign statements to renounce her belief her term was extended to November 22nd, 2009. Instead of releasing her, police from her hometown collected her from the Qianjin Forced Labour Camp and took her straight to the Oroqen Detention Centre.

Ms. Sun is very weak and now has hepatitis B, but police still will not release her, nor will they allow her family to visit her. Ms. Sun's life is in real danger.

Almost forty practitioners from Dayangshu Town have been arrested and tortured, and large amounts of money have been extorted from their families. Half of these practitioners were sentenced to long prison terms, but none of their families have received any legal documentation.
