Falun Gong Practitioners' Righteous Demeanour in Court Touches People's Hearts

As the recent hot, dry weather turned cool, a mist of soft rain appeared on the afternoon of May 24th, 2010 in Kunming City. In the ceremonial courtroom, the calm and dignified defence of three Falun Gong practitioners shook the courthouse, and swayed the hearts of attendees. People later commented, in regards to the weather, how the heavens must have been in tears.

Ms. Zhang Meilan, Ms. Peng Sufen, and Ms. Liu Rong are residents of Dongchuan District. They put up three banners on the bridge of an intersection reading, "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is Good!" "Falun Gong is Great!" and "The World Needs Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance!" Their righteous action put fear in the hearts of the Communist Party officials.

Among these three ladies, two of whom are in their seventies, one has a disabled hand. They obtained good health through practising Falun Gong, and by abiding in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Ms. Zhang Meilan's son-in-law said, "She got rid of all diseases after cultivating, and now no longer needs to ask us to take her to see doctors. We don't oppose her practice. She even helps us with the household chores."

In the face of Communist Party members who brutally persecute and defame Falun Gong, these three ladies stood up bravely in defence of their faith. They calmly answered questions and cross examined their accusers with their own questions that flowed like water.

The prosecutor, Zhu Lin pointed at the photos and asked Ms. Peng Sufen, "Are these the banners you three hung up?"

Ms. Peng could not see clearly without her reading glasses, so she asked the prosecutor, "Please read them for me." Zhu Lin read, "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is Good!" "Falun Gong is Great!"

Ms. Peng said there should be another one that says, "The World Needs Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance!" Zhu Lin quickly added, "It is here."

Ms. Peng asked him, "Is Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance good?" He smiled without reply.

Zhu Lin then pointed to a photo, "These are the 42 discs you submitted."

Ms. Peng answered, "No, I gave these to you so you could learn the truth about Falun Gong. You can play them here and now to prove the truth of my words if you like." Zhu Lin was speechless again.

Ms. Zhang Meilan spoke calmly, "Prosecutor Zhu Lin, you said Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is evil, I cannot agree. Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good, Falun Gong is good. You should recite these words daily, as it would benefit you and your family. Please remember this!" The elderly lady's voice was not at all loud, but manifested her pure heart.

At one point the three practitioners mutually requested, "If you think Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is evil, please tell us what is righteous?" Neither the judge or prosecutor ventured to openly answer this question.

As for the three assigned counsel, they hardly said a word. Only one was, at one point, fair-minded enough to add that Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is not wrong.

Other Falun Gong practitioners and their families were not allowed to speak, but the three accused practitioners touched people's hearts with their words. Their family members were especially hopeful, saying, "Our dear ones are truly innocent!"

Judge Yang Xiaoping declared a recess, and the practitioners were allowed to post bond pending their trial and return home with their families.
