On August 27th, 2008, Mr. Li Liandong was arrested and sentenced to three years of forced labour. Mr. Li, from Yangyuan County, Zhangjiakou City, is being held at the Tumuji Forced Labour Camp in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. This was the third time he was sentenced to a term of three years in a forced labour camp.

Around 2000, Mr. Li was arrested by the local police, and was held at the Gaoyang Forced Labour Camp for three years. At end of his term, the authorities immediately sentenced him to another three years of forced labour, and took him to the Handan Forced Labour Camp. Both labour camps are in Hebei Province.

When Mr Li's second term of forced labour finished in March 2007, before his family could collect him, officials from Zhangjiakou City took him from the labour camp and drove him back to the city, where he was held, against his will, in a hotel. Mr. Li was brutally tortured there, but still refused to give up his belief in Falun Gong. On one occasion he was handcuffed with arms raised above his head and was pulled up off the ground for long periods of time. Upon seeing him suspended in mid air, the person who brought in the meals was so scared that she dropped the food, and then refused to bring the meals anymore. Mr. Li was also tied to an iron chair for over seven days. He was viciously beaten, deprived of sleep for over 20 days, and barbaric methods were used to force-feed him. The officials also used female prostitutes to humiliate Mr. Li. They would stare at him and then change his underwear.

Mr. Li endured this inhumane torture for over two months. He was released only because his life was in imminent danger and the officials did not want to be held responsible for his death.

In July 2008, just before the Beijing Olympics, Mr. Li was arrested again, and taken to the Tumuji Forced Labour Camp. Due to Mr. Li's firm belief in Falun Gong, he became a primary target for persecution. On September 20th, 2009, Mr. Li and other practitioners tried to stop the brutal beating of a practitioner named Song Zhiyu. The guards, and other inmates working for them, rushed over to beat the practitioners. Mr. Li received severe injuries and ended up bedridden. Wang Liwei, a guard at the labour camp, dragged Mr. Li out of bed and beat him again. Mr. Li was then locked in isolation.

Practitioners, whose forced labour terms have ended, are taken directly to a brainwashing centre for further, and more brutal persecution.

We call for Mr. Li's family and fellow practitioners to help rescue Mr. Li.
