Ms. Zhu Yaping has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) simply because she follows the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance as a Falun Gong practitioner. Ms. Zhu started to practise Falun Gong in 1999, and soon after her health began to improve dramatically.

She was arrested and "sentenced" to a forced labour camp twice for a total of three years, and she was also detained in a brainwashing centre. Ms. Zhu was constantly harassed at her home by the police, creating tension among her family members. Her husband, who couldn't bear it any longer, divorced her, leaving Ms. Zhu to live and take care of herself alone.

The persecution of Ms. Zhu Yaping

On the afternoon of January 15th, 2001, Ms. Zhu and another Falun Gong practitioner were arrested by the Baihe Forestry Police Department. Soon after they were arrested, their houses were ransacked and their Falun Gong books, articles and tapes were taken away. Yu Qingyi, the department chief in the Beihe Forestry Police Department and Chen, the chief of Erdao Local Police Station, tried to pry information out of her. Because she refused to speak, they wouldn't let her sleep, drink, eat or use the toilet for three nights, unless she told them the source of the Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution. Ms. Zhu still never told them anything and out of anger they beat her all over her body. In the end Ms. Zhu was detained for 15 days, and had 5,000 yuan1 extorted from her by the police.

After Ms. Zhu was sent home on February 22nd, 2001, Chen (the leader of the Erdao Local Police Station) tricked Ms. Zhu and two more Dafa practitioners, took them to the Antu Police Department, and then transferred them to the detention centre.

Because of the horrible environment in the detention centre, Ms. Zhu came down with a fever and developed a goose egg size bump on her hip. She also couldn't get up, couldn't use the toilet, and didn't eat for 12 days in a row. Under such circumstances she was still detained for another 25 days.

On the day that she was sent home, Yu Xue, the leader of the Antu Police Department, forced her to sign a guarantee statement, and to turn in 250 yuan for her expenses at the detention centre; otherwise, they wouldn't let her go. To make matters worse, Chen even made her pay a 3,000 yuan deposit that hasn't been returned to her even now.

On July 16th, 2001, in the Antu 610 Brainwashing Centre, Leader Zheng played videos which slanders Falun Gong, and forced people to write their thoughts about it. However, saying anything positive about Falun Gong was not allowed. People who were detained there were forced to run even while they use the toilet. Ms. Zhu's sister who was also detained there, couldn't get up and kept spitting out mouthfuls of blood. Even though she was in this state, the prison guards made her do the same things as everyone else.

On March 16th, 2002, while Ms. Zhu was distributing leaflets exposing the persecution in her neighbourhood, she was set up by the police and arrested by the Lushuihe Police Department. They cuffed her hands behind her back and brutally beat her. Her wrists were cut and bleeding from the handcuffs. At the prison one of the guards forced his knee against her chest, making it impossible for her to breathe. They grabbed her by her hair and beat her head and face, then forced her to squat while holding out her arms and made her stay in that position for long periods of time. If she would happen to move the guards would beat and kick her. That night they handcuffed her to a stool for the entire night with four guards watching her, making sure she didn't move.

The next day, she was sent to Fusong Detention Centre where she remained for 98 days. Then she was moved to Heizuizi Forced Labour Camp for one year.

In 2003 Ms. Zhu was sent back home. The police from the Erdao Police Department kept harassing her over the phone. She was forced to have her pictures and fingerprints taken, and to report where she was going before she could leave. They asked Ms. Zhu's husband to watch and monitor her and used his job and their child's future to blackmail him. He couldn't take the pressure anymore, and unwillingly divorced her.

On April 15th, 2003, three police teams followed the chief of the Erdao Police Department in Antu County and ransacked Ms. Zhu's sister's home, because they found informational materials about Falun Gong on the street.

On the afternoon of April 19th, 2007, at around 5 p.m., a dozen vehicles from the Yanbian police department, the Antu police department, and the domestic security division, surrounded Ms. Zhu's sister's house. They arrested her sister, took away her computer, printer, materials that explain the facts of Falun Gong, her mobile phone and many other things, leaving their 90-year-old mother home alone. They sent Ms. Zhu's sister to the Antu police department that night and used false documents, which were signed by themselves, to "sentence" Ms. Zhu to two years in a forced labour camp.
