In January 2010, the Jiansanjiang Area Court of Heilongjiang Province sentenced Ms. Jiang Xinbo, a Falun Gong practitioner, to four years in prison but didn't notify her family until March. Ms. Jiang was taken to the Harbin City Women's Prison in Heilongjiang Province.

On September 10th, 2009, Ms. Jiang was distributing Falun Gong DVDs at the Qianjin Farmer's Market in the Jiansanjiang area when she was arrested by officers Zhao Jun and Liu Jiazhong from the Qianjin Police Department. She was taken to Jiansanjiang Detention Centre, where the deputy chief of the detention centre, Ji Qian, savagely beat her.

After the Jiansanjiang Area Court scheduled a trial for Ms. Jiang on December 2nd and 3rd, 2009, a bizarre series of events took place. First, Wang Jialin, the secretary of Jiansanjiang Area Committee of Politics and Law Enforcement, ordered the Qianjin Farm Committee of Politics and Law Enforcement, the Qianjin Police Department, and Qianjin Middle School (where Ms. Jiang's husband works) to pressure Ms. Jiang's husband into hiring two attorneys from Beijing. The attorneys agreed to defend Ms. Jiang. However, Su Yigang, the political instructor at Qianjin Police Department, and Wang Yuhai, the principal of Qianjin Middle School, arrested Ms. Jiang's husband. While they were holding him, Wang Wei, the Communist Party Committee secretary at Qianjin Farm; Wang Quanyi, the political instructor at Qianjin Farm; and Su Yigang then threatened the husband and coerced him into firing the attorneys.

Ms. Jiang was tried on January 26th, 2010, by Li Jiangying, director of Jiansanjiang Area Court; Yuan Pengfei, presiding judge; Li Fenghua, judge; and Ding Lichang, judge. During the trial, Ms. Jiang was forbidden to defend herself. Her husband wanted to defend her, but was not allowed to finish reading his defence statement. The whole trial lasted just 30 minutes.

On March 26th, 2010, Ms. Jiang's family received a notice that the verdict had been decided and the case closed on January 28th. She was taken to Harbin City Women's Prison of Heilongjiang Province at that time.
