Ms. Sun Fenglan began practising Falun Gong in August 1996 in Yilan County, Heilongjiang Province. The following is a report about the four times she was persecuted.

On July 20th, 1999, Ms. Sun went to the provincial capital, Harbin City, to request the release of some Falun Dafa practitioners. She was forced to stay in a meeting room of the police department listening to and watching a video programme that slandered Falun Gong. This went on for several days before she was allowed to go home.

She was persecuted again when she went to Beijing to appeal to higher authorities for help. Before she had a chance to appeal she was arrested by officials from the local government's liaison office in Beijing. They imprisoned her for five days, took the cash she had on her, and then sent her to the county detention centre. She was held in the detention centre for 45 days, fined 5,000 yuan1, and made to pay 300 additional yuan for food. She was released after she went on a hunger strike for eight days. During her imprisonment, Ms. Sun was forced to stand and/or run for long hours outdoors during the winter time. She spent the New Year in 2000 inside the detention centre. The food provided had sand mixed in with it.

On November 20th, 2001, Ms. Sun was persecuted for the third time. She was at the home of a fellow practitioner when she was arrested by officers from the Jiedao Police Station. They ransacked her home and kept her in the Second Detention Centre. She was on a hunger strike for 15 days before they released her. The perpetrators involved were Zhao Yuling, Liu Yan, Wang Zehui, and Wang Yibin.

On February 25th, 2002, the deputy chief of Guanyue Police Station, Wang Yibin, came to Ms. Sun's home and asked her to come to the office to verify some statements. Once she got into the car, they sent her to the Second Detention Centre, where she received a sentence stating that she would be sent to the Wanjia Forced Labour Camp for two years. She was sent to the camp the next day, although the sentence and its contents were fabricated.
