Mr. Guo Xiaojun was a former lecturer at Shanghai Jiaotong University. On the morning of January 8th, 2010, after he had just stepped outside of his apartment building, the police from the Baoshan District Police Department Domestic Security Division who were waiting in their cars jumped out and took him into custody.

Chou Feng, the director of the Domestic Security Division, led several plainclothes police officers, including Yang Yuefei and Chen Keyun and the officials at the local residential committee to break into Mr. Guo's home while his wife, 3-year-old son and mother-in-law were at home. They showed a blank search warrant and filled it out on the spot. They ransacked his home for over two hours and confiscated three computers, one printer, over a dozen Falun Gong books and some office supplies.

Mr. Guo's parents and his brothers from Henan Province came to Shanghai after they heard the news. All of Mr. Guo's family members went together to the Baoshan District Police Department to demand he be released, but their request was denied. They were not allowed to meet Mr. Guo. Later, Mr. Guo's wife, Ms. Xue Lanxiang, went there several more times to request his release, but the police refused to meet with her. After Mr. Guo's parents went back to his hometown of Jiaozou City, Henan Province, the local police began to limit their activities and monitor them. Chou Feng also threatened Ms. Xue, saying, "You don't want your kid to become an orphan. We will arrest more practitioners after the Chinese New Year."

Mr. Guo's family hired a lawyer, Mr. Liang Xiaojun from Beijing to represent him. However, the officials from the Beijing Judicial Bureau said to him, "If you want to keep your licence, you should no longer deal with Guo Xiaojun's case." Lawyer Liang said that this was the first time that the Beijing Judicial Bureau had directly interfered with his taking a case during his many years of practice. He had no choice but to break the agreement with Mr. Guo's family.

However, through Lawyer Liang's meeting with Mr. Guo, his family found out that Mr. Gao's forehead was severely injured.

Mr. Guo Xiaojun was a former lecturer at Shanghai Jiaotong University. Since he refused to give up his Falun Gong practice, the university officials had repeatedly harassed him and detained him. In August, 2000, when he distributed Falun Gong informational materials, he was arrested. He was then sentenced to five years in prison and detained at the Tilanqiao Prison, where he suffered persecution. After he was released in 2005, he went through many difficulties before finding a job. For his excellent performance, he was promoted to a human resource manager. However, in December, 2009, his company was forced to fire him due to the pressure they were receiving from a higher level government agency. Mr. Guo's family had to move to avoid persecution. They rented their current apartment at Pujiang Town, Minhang District, but the police still tracked him down.
