Ms. Zhu Yinfang started practisng Falun Gong at the end of 1996 in Chengdu City and worked in the Kalamayi Hotel in Chengdu. On October 13th1999, the Chenghua Police Precinct in Chengdu City imprisoned Ms. Zhu for 15 days. On December 5th1999, the police arrested her again at Tiananmen Square in Beijing while she was appealing for Falun Gong. She was transferred back to Kelamayi City in the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region under police escort. On January 11th, 2000, Ms. Zhu again went to Tiananmen Square and was arrested while appealing for Falun Gong. On February 25th, 2000, Kelamayi City police sentenced her to two years in a forced labour camp in the Xinjiang Region. After being released in 2001, she went back to Chengdu City. On October 13th, 2001, she and a few other practitioners were arrested once again for practising the exercises in a park. This time they were detained in the Longquanyi Detention Centre in Chengdu and the Anjing Town Detention Centre in Pi County, Sichuan Province. Ms. Zhu refused to cooperate with any of the guards' orders or give in to their coercion. She refused to give her name or tell where she worked to avoid bringing hardship upon the people she knew. She was beaten severely by police in the Anjing Detention Centre for not cooperating, and they often ordered criminals to scratch her face and pull out large clumps of her hair when she practised the exercises. The living conditions in her cell were very poor, and she developed scabies, which was extremely painful.

On April 25th, 2003, Ms. Zhu was transferred from the Second Ward to the Seventh Ward in the Nanmusi Women's Forced Labour Camp in Zizhong County, Sichuan Province. In less than 24 hours she was dead. Below is a witness who revealed how she was beaten to death.

"The Seventh Ward is especially set up for torturing Falun Gong practitioners. The guards first taped her mouth shut to prevent her from shouting "Falun Gong is great!" The prisoners who were assigned to watch her said as they handcuffed her, "If you refuse to accept the brainwashing, the only outcome is to die."

At 6:00 p.m. on the first day, when the prisoners were ready to have dinner, Warden Zhang Xiaofang brought Ms. Zhu to the ward and snarled, "I have ways to deal with you." She then called Ms. Zhu to the second floor. Zhang ordered prisoners Zhuang Xiaoling and Liu Ping to handcuff Ms. Zhu to a high bar on a metal bunk bed. The mattress was made of palm fibre. Ms. Zhu had brought her bag of clothes and another bag of bedding with her, but they were all thrown in the yard, and they did not allow her to make her bed. Ms. Zhu was left to hang by the handcuffs, as she could not sit or lie down. She spent a miserable first night without dinner.

The next morning, on April 26th, 2003, prisoner Zhuang Xiaoling unlocked Ms. Zhu's handcuffs and gave her some rice soup. Ms. Zhu had eaten only half a bowl when guard Mao Yuchun ordered the prisoner to feed Ms. Zhu an unknown drug. Ms. Zhu said, "I am not sick. Why should I take medicine?"

Prisoners Zhuang Xiaoling, Chen Liyan, and Liu Ping immediately held Ms. Zhu down on the bed, tied her up, used a mouth opener to stretch her mouth open to the extreme, and forced down a large bowl of a liquid drug. Ms. Zhu's mouth bled severely, so they used a towel to stop the bleeding and got it soaked with blood. They then left her hanging by the handcuffs from the bed bar.

By lunchtime, everyone was sitting around having lunch in the yard. Guard Pan Rong ordered prisoner Zhuang Xiaoling and others to get Ms. Zhu down. They dragged her from the second floor and dropped her in the middle of the yard. One prisoner took half a bowl of rice with some vegetables to her. Just as she was about to eat, Guard Pan Rong ran out out of her office and yelled at those who allowed her to eat. They then dragged her to the washroom.

Several female prisoners entered the washroom, handcuffed Ms. Zhu's wrists behind her, and punched and kicked her. She screamed the entire time. Drug offender Chen Liyan got some underwear with faeces in it and gave it to thief Chen Rong, who poked it down Ms. Zhu's throat with the end of a hanger. Ms. Zhu gagged horribly, and her face was covered with faeces.

Ms. Zhu was in extreme pain. As she rolled all over the floor, almost all her clothes came off. Only her sleeves were still attached to her arms cuffed behind her. Prisoner Chen Liyan poured cold water on her, and Ms. Zhu's condition quickly became critical.

Guard Pan Rong told the prisoners, "Don't allow her to close her eyes!" Prisoner Liu Ping brought some mentholated balm and dropped it into Ms. Zhu's eyes. She could not open them due to the pain. The prisoners beat her cruelly. Prisoner Chen Liyan stepped on Ms. Zhu and hit her with the legs of a stool very hard.

Guard Pan Rong then called for everyone to go back upstairs. The only ones left were those prisoners that were beating Ms. Zhu. No one was allowed to enter the washroom, but all heard her cries of misery.

By 4:00 p.m., prisoner Zhang Yan came upstairs to ask for Ms. Zhu's clothes since Ms. Zhu had already died. Someone washed her body and put clean clothes on her. Then they notified the camp doctor and carried her away. The guards gave orders that none of the detained Falun Gong practitioners were allow to leave their cells. Prisoners brought dinner upstairs to each practitioner. No one was allowed to look down from the windows."

Ms. Zhu died as a result of torture 22 hours after she entered the Seventh Ward. Warden Zhang Xiaofang said on April 27th, 2003, "That new inmate was sick and was bailed out on medical parole." No one was allowed to mention this incident.
