Elderly Practitioner Ms. Fu Shulan Sentenced to Six Years in Prison

On July 30th, 2009, the Jiangan District Court sentenced Ms. Fu Shulan from Wuhan City to six years' imprisonment. Ms. Fu is currently being detained in the 3rd Ward of Fanjiatai Prison in Shanyang.

At noon on August 15th, 2008, police from the Wuhan City Police Department and the Huaqiao Police Station, along with the staff from the residential committee took Ms. Fu away from her home. The police ransacked her house and confiscated Falun Gong books and some personal property as well.

At around 9:00 p.m. that evening, police from the Huaqiao Police Station sent Ms. Fu to the Baibuting Detention Centre, located in the Jiangan Area. Ms. Fu was detained there for one year and subjected to various forms of persecution.

On June 12th, 2009, the Jiangan District Court put Ms. Fu on trial. When Ms. Fu saw her family at the court, she shouted, "Falun Gong is good!" three times. The court staff threatened, "Since you yelled three times, your prison term will be extended by three years."

Ms. Fu's family were shocked to see Ms. Fu's disfigured appearance. Ms. Fu's face was severely swollen, she was lame and there were blood stains on her hands. Ms. Fu told her family, "They detained me in a small room for a year, I never received the 400 yuan1 you sent to me every month, and the handcuffs cut into my flesh and caused the bleeding."
