Tan Jinhui is sixty-six years old, from Xinhua Town, Guanghan City Sichuan Province. She has been arrested and imprisoned numerous times because she practises Falun Gong. The resulting torture has rendered her physically disabled and unable to take care of herself.

In the winter of 2000, Ms. Tan was handing out Falun Gong materials which exposed the persecution when two officers from the Xinhua Town Police Station, Jiao Zhongjun and Li Wei, arrested her. In the police station, officer Wang Changjun grabbed her hair and submerged her head in a barrel of water many times, then Jiao Zhongjun began slapping her face. They called Jiang Tianxing from the National Security Bureau, and when he arrived, he began beating Ms. Tan with an iron bar, continuing until the iron bar broke. Her face and nose were severely swollen. Jiang Tianxing then picked up a thick book and savagely beat her head. He handcuffed her that night, and used a high-wattage light bulb aimed at her face. When she looked up at him, he backed off. The next day the police transferred her to Guanghan Detention Centre, where she was held for twenty-seven days.

In April 2001, Ms. Tan was arrested by Chen Shaoyong when she was delivering materials again. She was immediately transferred to Guanghan Detention Centre. On July 28th, 2001, she was sentenced to Sichuan Women's Forced Labour Camp for one and a half years. The labour camp held her seventy-six additional days because she refused to give up her belief.

During the time in the labour camp, guard Zhang Xiaofang constantly slapped and kicked Ms. Tan, even when she was trying to sleep. The same guard also instigated other inmates to beat her.

The inmates were more ruthless. They grabbed practitioners' hair and hit their heads against the walls, forced them to stand for long periods of time until their feet were swollen and numb, and they eventually passed out. The inmates claimed that practitioners were faking being unconscious, and smeared chilli paste on their eyelids. Some practitioners passed out numerous times, and were even persecuted to death.

The timetable for Ms. Tan's arrests is as follows:

On January 19th, 2001, a group of officers from Xinhua Police Station took her away from home to Gaoping Brainwashing Centre. She returned home the same day.

In December 2003, police from Xinhua Station and the 610 Office(an organisation of special agents just for persecuting Falun Gong) agents broke into Ms. Tan's home, and took her to Hexing Brainwashing Centre for one month.

On September 14th, 2006, when Tan Jinghui was shopping at Xinglong Market, officers Yang Bin, and Hou Junlin from the Domestic Security Division of Guanghan Public Security Bureau, and Li Wei from Xinhua Police Station arrested her and held her in Guanghan Detention Centre, later sentencing her to three years.

On June 28th, 2007, Ms. Tan was transferred to Sichuan Province Women's Prison, where she was subjected to a tremendous amount of torture. She was forced into slave labour for over ten hours every day, requiring her to sit for long periods of time. This resulted in her legs and feet becoming numb, which caused her to fall constantly. She was also deprived of sleep at night. This was accomplished by forcing her to stand all night long. Because she kept falling, the guard cuffed her hand to bed rail, where she hung with her feet barely touching the ground. After that torture experience she could no longer raise her arms, her hands were stiff, and she also could not walk. She has not been able to take care of herself since.
