Ms. Chen Jianghong began practising Falun Gong in 1996. She went to Beijing to appeal for justice in November 1999 at Tiananmen Square, where she was arrested and held in a detention centre for nearly two months. Because she refused to give up her faith, she was arrested twice by officers from Silipeng Police Station, and each time detained for 15 days.

In October 2000, the Yingcheng Police Department sentenced her to one year of forced labour and took her to the Second Ward in the Qilihu Women's Forced Labour Camp located in Shayang County, Hubei Province. The guards used drug offenders to brutally beat detained practitioners. Ms. Chen was tortured in many ways, including sleep deprivation, and was forced to work more than a dozen hours each day.

In April 2002, Yingcheng City Police arrested Ms. Chen and sentenced her to another year of forced labour. She was again taken to the Second Ward of Qilihu Women's Forced Labour Camp, where she was cruelly tortured. She was forced to sit on a small stool in the corner and was not allowed to move, with no food or drink, or allowed to use the toilet or to sleep. She was tortured like this for seven days.

In October 2003, six months after she was released, police arrested her a third time and sentenced her to another year of forced labour in the same labour camp. This time she was inhumanly tortured by "Punching the nail wall." This torture involves a wall full of sharp ended nails. Prisoners pulled Ms. Chen to a standing position with her body bent at a 90-degree angle and her head pointed towards the nail-studded wall. She was not allowed to move. If she did, the prisoners would pull her head and push it against the wall full of nails. Her head bled so badly that her eyes and head were swollen for a long time.

Ms. Chen was forcibly injected with unknown drugs in each of the forced labour camps. Other injected practitioners would either get a rash immediately or soon after. The three unknown injections severely damaged her health. She had a bleeding rash all over her body, and it was both itchy and painful. These injections caused her to have reactions until after her release, and eventually caused her death. She also endured intense mental pressure as a result of the persecution.
