Many Falun Gong practitioners are being detained in Division 4 of Shijiazhuang Labour Camp, Hebei Province. In order to force practitioners give up their belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, the guards there brutally torture and humiliate practitioners. As a consequence, some practitioners are force-fed, and they vomit blood.

The guards Zhao Yuan and Liu Yamin are in charge of the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners there. Both of them were transferred from Gaoyang Labour Camp in Hebei Province. Other people who have participated in the persecution include Cong Sujuan, Zhang Jia and others. From April 2008 to November 2008, the persecution was intensified because of the Olympic Games.

When practitioners exposed the truth of the persecution and told people the facts of Falun Gong at the labour camp, guard Zhao Yuan taped their mouths. Below are some facts about the persecution that has occurred there:

1. Ms. Li Jianying is a practitioner in Shahe of Xintai City. One evening in early June, guards carried Li Jianying out of the cell and tried to force her to give up her practice. After one week, because of the torture, Li Jianying was unable to take care of herself. The guards restricted her activities and did not allow her to interact with anyone. One day, someone saw her face severely swollen from being beaten.

2. Five practitioners were detained for more than 10 months, including Wang Hongmei from Langfang City and four from Xinji City (Yang Liyuan, Fang Hua, Wang Xiumei and Xu Yonghong). They were deprived of access to the toilet and were not allowed to interact with other people. They had to urinate and defecate in the small, dark and damp cell. Police guards did not allow them to wash or change their clothing. Every day they were handcuffed and forced to sit on small stools. If Falun Gong practitioners went on hunger strikes to appeal, guards force-fed them and intentionally damaged their internal organs. The guards said each force-feeding cost 50 yuan1. Because of the force-feeding, some Falun Gong practitioners vomited blood.

3. Ms. Li Zhuan is a practitioner from Xinji City. Because of persecution, she developed emphysema and coughed every day. Guards did not allow her to rest and would not release her for medical reasons. Instead, the guards said she pretended to be ill and forced her to the labour site to work.

4. Ms. Gao Suying is a practitioner from Langfang City. Because of persecution, she developed a uterine myoma. The tumour was even bigger than an egg. The uterus kept bleeding for more than 40 days. The haemoglobin level was only 5.7 grams. Despite this, guards said she pretended to be ill. They did not allow her to see a doctor, but instead forced her to do labour.

5. Ms. Fang Hua is a practitioner from Xinji City. She is handicapped and became worse in the winter. The guards ordered her to do labour, but she refused. The guards forced her to stand for several days. When Fang Hua had her period, female guard Liu Yamin (in Division 4) asked inmate Yue Kui to pour cold water in Fang Hua's trousers and would not allow her to replace the sanitary napkin. Liu Yamin was laughing at her, "Can't you withstand such a minor punishment?"

6. Ms. Liu Binghuan is a 19-year-old practitioner from Xingtai City. In order to force her to give up her practice, guards forced her to stand in water for 70-80 hours.

7. Ms. Li Wenxiu is a practitioner from Shijiazhuang City. The guards did not allow her to sleep. Whenever she took a nap, they pinched her.

8. There is also a practitioner in her 50s who works in the judicial system in Xingtai City. She was sent to labour camp three times. This time she was detained for more than 20 days. Because of the persecution, she became delirious and could not take care of herself. The guards told inmates Zhang Huiqing and Shi Lijuan to continue to persecute her.

9. Ms. Li Yujie is a practitioner in her 30s with a master's degree. She was transferred to Shijiazhuang Labour Camp from Beijing. Li Yujie went on a hunger strike to appeal the persecution. The guards told inmates to brutally beat her.

Note

1. "Yuan" is the Chinese currency; 500 yuan is equal to the average monthly income of an urban worker in China.
