After three years of being detained in a forced labour camp, Ms. Li Yuhua died on June 21st, 2009, only five days after being released.

Ms. Li lived in Yancheng Town, Jiajiang County, Leshan City. She went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in December 2000, and was arrested and sentenced to 18 months of forced labour in the Nanmusi Labour Camp, located in Zizhong County. She was tortured by being forced to stand for long periods of times, and not allowed to use the toilet. She was sentenced to another two years of forced labour in mid July 2003, also in the Nanmusi Labour Camp. During the second forced labour sentence she was beaten by several guards and prisoners, which caused her severe injuries.

On March 11th, 2006, officer Gao Shiwei led a group to ransack her home and then arrested her. She was sentenced the third time to three years of forced labour. This time she was sent to the Yangmahe Labour Camp in Jianyang City, Sichuan Province. Ms. Li endured numerous tortures, and was on the verge of death. The camp administration feared she would die in custody and notified her family to pick her up on June 16th, 2009, declaring that they would not be responsible for whatever happened to her afterwards. Only five days after Ms. Li returned home, she died on June 21st, 2009.
