On April 30th, 2009, eight female practitioners from Nanchang city, Jiangxi province were studying Falun Gong teachings at Ms. Leung Meihua's home when more than 10 police officers arrested them.

Those arrested were: Leung Meihua (60), Jiang Lanying (40), Jiang Xiaoyan (30s), Xie Chunmei (40s), Gong Xiaohong (59), Yuan Fengmei (60s), Zhou Shuzhen (60s), and Fan Saiying (70s). Practitioners Jiang Lanying, Jiang Xiaoyan, Yuan fengmei, Leung Meihua, and Xie Chunmei have been persecuted many times by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The practitioners were taken to the first detention centre in Nanchang city.

Prior to being taken by the police, Ms. Leung Meihua was being closely monitored. On the afternoon of April 30th, 2009, two undercover female party officials went to Ms. Leung's home and knocked on her door. After 4:00 p.m., two practitioners were taken by police as they left Ms. Leung's home. More than ten police officers then broke into Ms. Leung's home, ransacked it and arrested all the practitioners there.

Ms. Leung Meihua and Ms. Jiang Lanying are still detained at a detention centre. Ms. Jiang Xiaoyan and Ms. Xie Chunmei have been transferred to a forced labour camp. This is Ms. Xie Chunmei's second time at a forced labour camp. Ms. Fan Saiying was released on May 1st, 2009, and Ms. Fan Zhou Shuzhen on May 27th, 2009. Ms. Gong Xiaohong was released on June 20th, 2009, and Ms. Yuan fengmei on July 11th, 2009.

Ms. Yuan Fengmei's son, Mr. Wang Xin, died as a result of the torture and mistreatment he endured on July 2nd, 2001. He was only 28 years old.

Ms. Xie Chunmei was a high school teacher in Nanchang city. On November 6th, 2007 she was detained at a forced labour camp for a year and a half.

When Ms. Leung Meihua was imprisoned, she was only allowed to sleep for less than three hours and forced to stand for over 10 hours a day because she refused to give up her practice. As a result, her feet and legs swelled. A criminal inmate monitored and beat her. She was not allowed to change clothes or take a bath for 42 consecutive days.

Ms. Jiang Lanying was detained in a forced labour camp for two years. During her second year, her health was in imminent danger due to being tortured, so the camp authorities told her family to take her to the hospital. In July of 2002, she was taken to the Tang Shan Police Station on Qingshan Road. A CCP member, Zhou Jianfeng, went to her home to ask her mother, "If you pay, we can reduce her sentence." They were not able to reach an agreement, so Ms. Jiang Lanying was sentenced to five years in prison. After several near death experiences and despite recommendations from hospitals, she was imprisoned until she completed the five year sentence. She was released on July 13th, 2007. Now she is detained in a detention centre.
