Additional Details of Mr. Yang Guiquan's Death While in Custody in Fuxin City

Fuxin City Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Yang Guiquan was detained in the Xindi Detention Centre, where he died on July 5th, 2009. His back and head had bruises, and there were scars on his legs. Mr. Yang's inner thighs showed scars from electric shocks.

Mr. Yang Guiquan was 45 years old. He lived in Fuxin City. He worked at Rongxing Plastics Limited in Fuxin City. At around 6:00 p.m. on June 20th, 2009, he was distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong in a Fuxin City shopping mall when he was arrested by Wu Zhongqi and other officers from the political security section of the Haizhou District Police Department. He was taken to the Xindi Detention Centre. Mr. Yang's family members and employer went to the political security section multiple times to request his release, but they were unsuccessful.

During his detention, Mr. Yang held a hunger strike to protest the persecution, but the guards brutally force-fed him. On July 5th, 2009, he was in critical condition. He was first taken to the Police Department Hospital for treatment, then returned to the detention centre. After several hours, he was taken to the Fuxin City Mining Corporation General Hospital. Doctors at the general hospital said that Mr. Yang was not breathing and had no heartbeat when he arrived. They announced that he had died before arriving at the hospital.

Mr. Yang Guiquan died at around 3:00 p.m. on July 5th, 2009. The police notified the family members at around 8:00 p.m. that day.
