The Persecution of Practitioners Employed by Kunming Steel Company, Yunnan Province

Ms. Guan Hongfen, in her forties, worked at the Kunming Steel Company in An'ning City, Yunnan Province. At the beginning of 2009, she was reported while she was telling people the facts about Falun Gong in a certain village in An'ning City. Luckily, she escaped. In March 2009, she was arrested by 610 Office¹ personnel and national security police in the An'ning City Police Department, sentenced to two years of forced labour, and taken to the Dabanqiao (also known as the "ten-thousand-people pit"). Another practitioner, who had gone along with Ms. Guan to inform people about the persecution of Falun Gong was also arrested. Her situation is not clear.

Ms. Li Xuefen worked at the Longshan Mine of the Kunming Steel Company. She was in her fifties, and was from Lancang County in Yunnan Province. On Oct. 22nd, 2004, she was arrested from her home by people from the An'ning City Police Department, Wenquan Town Police Station in An'ning City, Party Directory of Longshan Mine of Kunming Steel Company, and the security department of the Longshan Mine. They also ransacked her home, as well as the homes of five other practitioners at Longshan Mine. All six of them were detained in the An'ning Detention Centre. Later Ms. Li was sentenced to two years of forced labour. She passed away in March 2007.

Between 1999 and 2009, the An'ning City Political and Justice Department, An'ning City Police Department, the 610 Office of the Kunming Steel Company, and the Luobai District Police Department of the Kunming Steel Company have been persecuting the thirty practitioners (on record) residing in areas under their jurisdiction.

Former captain of the national security squadron of An'ning City Police Department, surnamed Su and aged 60, directed police to arrest 22 practitioners in An'ning City in 2004. Among the 22 were 12 from the Kunming Steel Company, eight from the Longshan Mine of the Kunming Steel, and two from the An'ninghuan Phosphorous Mine. Nineteen of them have been sentenced to jail or forced labour. During the dragon boat festival period in 2007, Su 's son was in a car accident on his way from An'ning Spring to An'ning City and was killed on the spot.

Former Party Secretary of Longshan Mine, Yang Guoshou, male aged 60, has actively worked with the 610 Office of Kunming Steel, the An'ning City Political and Justice Department, and the Anning City Police Department to persecute practitioners since July 20th, 1999. In recent days, Yang often suffers from gout, his feet are sore, and he cannot walk. In 2007, his car collided with a truck carrying mine rocks, and he broke a few ribs. He was reported by people for his corrupted way of life and financial dealings and became infamous at the Kunming Steel Company. He was later transferred away from the Longshan Mine.
