On April 27th, 2009, while distributing leaflets exposing the persecution and telling people the facts about Falun Gong, Ms. Na Zhiping, a Chendgu City practitioner, was arrested by officers from the Qingyang District Police Station in Chengdu City. She has been tortured to the verge of death and is currently being detained in the Xinhua Community Hospital in Qingyang District.

Ms. Na used to live in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province. Since practising Falun Gong, she has become more kind and is very willing to help others. She was sentenced to one year of forced labour and was detained at the Longshan Reformatory Centre in Shenyang City. After her release, she was monitored for a long time. She moved to Chengdu City with her daughter and helped her daughter manage a sports apparel store.

On April 27th, 2009, Ms. Na was explaining the facts about Falun Gong to people inside her own store when someone reported her. Around 5 p.m. that afternoon, Qingyang Police Station officers ransacked the store, confiscating a copy of Zhuan Falun [This book comprises the principal teachings of Falun Gong], an MP3 player, some Falun Gong leaflets exposing the persecution and other personal belongings. On May 8th, 2009, the Qingyang District Procuratorate authorized the arrest.

Ms. Na is now in critical condition as a result of torture and is being held in in the Xinhua Community Hospital. Because the police did not want to shoulder the responsibility, they agreed to let her children visit her. Ms. Na was lying in bed, each hand cuffed to a bedpost and with shackles weighing over 60 pounds attached to her feet. The sight was unbearable.
